While the rest of the brewing world is in a race to create non-alcoholic beers, Stone's brewers have once again achieved what was once considered impossible: negative-alcoholic beer.
Introducing Stone IPA SUB-ZERØ: the first beer to clock in at -6.9% ABV.

We achieve this through a process called "reverse fermentation" wherein our proprietary bizzaro yeast eats ethanol and CO2 and converts that matter into simple glucose, fructose and sucrose. (The spent grain from this process is not suitable for livestock to consume as it is essentially highly alcohol-dense oatmeal.)

Our Senior Manager of Brewing and Innovation, Steve Gonzalez takes great pride in our team's accomplishment "This is an enormous breakthrough in the contra-inebriation sciences. It's one thing to be part of the team that put man on the moon. But today our team feels like we put the moon on man. Fermentation is of course a natural process, and it occurs in everything from the brewing process to the human body. In the absence of enough oxygen to fully metabolize nutrients in the human body, say during vigorous exercise, fermentation occurs at low levels. It is however, a fully reversible metabolic process, and here we are today, reversing the natural pathways by which the human body ferments, and even reversing the alcohol content of fermented beverages!"
