O.G. Bierstadt Schutzhund Club

On June 1st OGB was invited to host a Summer trial (meteorological summer😁) on the lovely training grounds of Peter Dummer and Petra Raffel in Michigan.

Our Judge for this trial was USCA Judge Don Yelle who was absolutely selfless in his kindness to make time in his busy schedule for this event. Don was personable, fair and educational in all his critiques. With new handlers, he was exceptional in making them feel comfortable. His community based perspective is exactly what our sport needs to interconnect and hold together. What a pleasure, thank you, Don Yelle for making time and losing sleep to judge our event.

We had many successful teams this weekend and one really good looking team that fell just short but will get that goal in short time!!

Saturday is a wrap!!!

On Saturday, April 27, 2024 OGB hosted a North Central Region Education Event presented by USCA Judge Deb Krsnich. Deb was generous enough to allow us to utilize her grounds and her expertise in presenting this informative RH Seminar. Her real life insight and generosity in sharing her wealth of knowledge was appreciated!

All individuals with participant dogs were given focused attention and direction on introducing these exercises. Incredibly useful and incredibly fun information and participation. We had a ton of food and we even had a 50 mile an hour plus wind gust that took out a massive canopy and threw another one right into our Treasurer’s head (poor Dottie). Other than the wind, the weather was tremendous, all participants were involved and gracious.

We can’t thank Deb enough for her generosity in presenting this information and giving a picture for another venue within the organization that allows people to not only enjoy their dogs, but to showcase some real life extremely useful skill sets. The proximity of the dog to dog distance in the group settings as seen by some of the pictures is really impressive. The background perspective on these exercises was particularly interesting. The ability to have the theory behind the exercises and routes to introducing some of the behaviors and exercises was incredibly useful… .

Our club members worked hard and as a team to provide the infrastructure to support this event, great job guys! McKenna Wicklund, thank you for being the subject of so many of the photos and showcasing these exercises with flair. Great job! Thank you everyone for attending wonderful camaraderie, very nice event!! Sorry for the cell phone pictures, but we wanted to kind of give a flavor for the wonderful time we had!

OG Bierstadt is pleased to announce that we are hosting a RH seminar in April of 2024. This will be a Regional Education Event and will be free to USCA North Central Region members. Our presenter will be USCA Judge Deb Krsnich. This event will be be located at the Fox Valley Police and Schutzhund Club grounds in Black Creek Wisconsin.

We are very excited to host this event and feel it’ll be a wonderful educational seminar. More information about our presenter and specifics about date and schedule to come!

The 2023 OG Bierstadt Spring Trial is a wrap! Thank you to Judge Craig Groh for informative and consistent judging! We learned much through your experience and your attention to semantics was absolutely useful to all participants!

Craig opened our field portion with remembrance of Gordon (Gordy) Esselman. As a club we strove to honor and continue his grit, kindness and sense of community to the sport!

Entered we had 3 IGPs, 7 BHVTs, 4 ADs, 2 IFH1s, 1 1FHV! As with all trials, not everybody was successful, and we congratulate and thank all participants!! To say the weather was less than ideal would be something of an understatement, but spring in the Midwest!

Huge congratulations to Kathleen Sanderson for a beautiful IGP3 routine with her BHOT Rottweiler Atta 92-92-94–278! They cleaned house with High—Trial, IGP3, Tracking, Obedience and Protection! Well worked and well earned!!

Congratulations to Jaime Jurgersen and Aero on a lovely BHVT routine! Also congratulations to Linda Butram on your BHVT with lively Liesel! Congratulations to Minna Nousiainen on your successful ADs in poor conditions on Gardenia and Crixus!

For our club members so very proud them and their successful titles!!

Mary Strous and Javier, BHVT achieved in fine fashion, so proud of all the hard work you put into this achievement!! Onward! Desiree Davis and Morgan, successful BHVT after a very recent litter, got it done with very little outdoor time in your area! Rose Barke and Blade, solid BHVT and onward to IGP! Dottie Renier and Able kicked out a very hard worked IFH1 in the rain with an excellent article indication “flop” on all 4 articles!! Well worked and incredible heart and persistence!! Finally Desiree Davis and her beautiful trotting Badger achieved their AD in conditions as unpleasant as we have seen, fantastic!

Thank you again to Judge Craig Groh for fair, consistent, and correct judging and a wealth of information ! RH triggered much interest among our membership.

And a huge thank you to Peter Dummer for coming out from Michigan not once but twice to be available to assist our participants in protection preparation. Your trial work was absolutely correct in offering the judge what he needed to see for evaluation and safe for every dog. We wish Petra Raffel good healing and are so appreciative of your time, expertise in trial preparation and most of all your kindness.

Thank you to members Lloyd and Renee Fulcer for offering your time and grounds for this event. Thank you to Lloyd for stepping up and laying the IGP3 tracks. We all know the AWDF was the same weekend and are so grateful for the time away from your primary commitments to be such supportive members. A special thanks to Renee for mentoring Kristen Kukowski in trial secretary duties.

Kristen Kukowski, you stepped into that trial secretary role like a champ. We so appreciate your willingness to step into that role at the last minute to allow Renee to help her friend Minna do an AD both her dogs. Thank you providing your support, food and travel assistance for the judge!!

Mary Strous, you baked like a champ. Awesome cross track laying! Your hard work, efforts and support were invaluable. Thank you so much for stepping up and taking the judge back to the airport when the other members were getting a little tired out lol!! Always glad to see your lovely parents at our events!!

Dottie Renier, you spent a fortune on food, and worked hard to make sure all the pieces were in order. Thank you so much!

Desiree Davis thank you for bringing those wonderful kringles and absolutely giving every bit of support you could from the “far north!”

OG Bierstadt had to make some major shifts and adaptations to survive as an active club in the last year. Our entire mode of being needed to be restructured and moved. As a membership, we’ve come through this stronger and improved. Certainly we’ve come through this bonded as a core membership. Locale is a bit extended and members have had to seek additional resources for support. The bulk of our members would like to sincerely thank Byron Johnson for quickly and generously, taking the role of helping us continue to be productive in the protection phase of IGP. We’ve all moved forward and are incredibly grateful for your assistance. With determination and these helps in place, none of us missed a step.👊🏽 The core of OGB is team!!

Again to our membership. Thank you for your hard work and your efforts to make this a successful trial. Customer service and professionalism was on spot. The strength of any club and it’s foray into the future is its young membership. Our younger members Kristen and Mary both showed up and absolutely helped to drive this event. Outstanding!!! Good training, and hopefully onward to better weather and success for all!!

Just a reminder our trial is April 29 and 30th in Winnebago Illinois. Entries will be closing 4/19. Peter Dummer will be available for pre-club helper practice next week Thursday, Friday early Saturday and also starting Wednesday on the week prior to trial.

With great sadness OGB would like to inform everybody that Gordon Esselman (Gordie) passed away today. Truly one of the founding cornerstones of this club and the heart of OG Bierstadt. We miss his wisdom, his guidance, his complete dedication and his social warmth. Deepest condolences to all his many friends and family. Any details received regarding services will be posted as soon as they become available. For anyone that knew him and loved him, truly prayers and a heartfelt cheers to the life of this wonderful man. 

A busy year for our OGB family across many venues. Congratulations to all of our members. OGB strong!!
