With hockey season right around the corner, we want to remind you how important mouthguards are! .
Teeth can not heal themselves. So if you lose or damage a tooth it can be a long and costly process to repair or replace it! .
Mouthguards not only protect your teeth and gums but can also protect against mild concussions since they cushion the impact to the jaws.
We offer custom mouthguards at all of our 4 offices. Reach out to us with any questions!
Have you been thinking about straightening your teeth or fixing your bite for awhile? Well now that Minnesota has a mandate requiring masks indoors, there is no better time to start your orthodontic treatment! Come see us for a free initial exam and we can discuss if braces or Invisalign are right for you.
Happy Father’s Day!
We are so grateful for all the Dads in our lives!
We appreciate all you do!
We love seeing our patients smile! But their masks are pretty great too!
We are so proud of all of the graduating seniors! 🎓
We know the end of your senior year was not what you had planned, but we also know you will all go on to do great things!

We want to thank all of the brave men and women who have served our country!
Our offices will be closed Monday, May 25 in observance of the holiday.
Have a safe and relaxing long weekend!
It was great seeing some of our patients today!
Welcome back! We are so excited to see everyone back at Vayda McMahon orthodontics.

Giving all moms a virtual hug today!
What color are you going to choose for your first time back??
Need a reminder on foods to avoid with braces? Here are some examples!
Avoid sticky foods - taffy, caramel, jellybeans, milk duds, starburst, licorice
Avoid hard/tough foods - nuts, beef jerky, bagels, pizza crust, hard candies, ice, hard chips
Avoid chewing non-food items: pens, toothpick, fingernails
Modify hard fruits and vegetables like apples and carrots by cutting them into small pieces. Also, make sure to cut the corn off of the cob and take the meat off of chicken wings and ribs so you don’t bite into the bone!
Don’t worry if you have a broken bracket we will fix it for you! But know that too many broken brackets can delay treatment. So try to avoid hard and sticky foods in order to avoid broken brackets and keep your treatment on track!
Too many sticky and sugary foods can also cause cavities and white spots around the braces. So make sure to limit your soda and candy amounts! We know many of us are treating ourselves to extra soda and candy during the Stay at Home orders so make sure you are rinsing well with water after you have sugar and use good oral hygiene practices! We want your teeth to be healthy as well as straight!
ATTENTION INVISALIGN PATIENTS!
We want to make sure that despite the mandated office closure you are still moving forward with your treatment.
You have probably gotten a call from our office about getting you some more trays. If you haven’t, give us a call so we can arrange for you to pick them up.
If you have a question about a tooth not “tracking” or following along with your trays, send us a picture! It doesn’t hurt to wear your trays a little longer, this can often allow the problem tooth to catch up! You can also try using “chewies” - these help the aligners seat fully in the mouth. You can purchase them online or we suggest using rubber straws.
This is also a reminder to make sure you wash your hands before you take your aligners in and out of your mouth. This is a good practice to get into all of the time, but especially during this pandemic!
For the most reliable results, your trays should be in your mouth 22 hours each day. If they aren’t in your mouth, make sure they are safe in your case! If you need another case, give our offices a call!
We are excited to see you all again soon! Hang in there!!
We hope all of our patients are taking good care of their braces and teeth during the Stay at Home orders.
The most commonly missed area is between the braces and the gum tissue. When this area doesn’t get cleaned well it can cause the gums to get red and puffy. Make sure to angle your tooth brush to get the bristles between the gums and braces.
Flossing is always an important part of oral hygiene. It’s gets the food and plaque out from between your teeth where your tooth brush can’t reach. There are special floss threaders or super floss that makes flossing with braces easier. It can take some extra time, but good thing we have lots of time on our hands right now - you should be able to give flossing some much deserved attention.
Proxybrushes are also a helpful cleaning tool. They do not replace brushing or flossing, but can help get food out from the braces and wires.
If you are in need of any cleaning supplies, retainer cases, wax, or rubberbands let our offices know! We can arrange for you to pick up what you need.
We miss seeing our patients! We encourage patients that have a concern or question to send us pictures of their teeth so we can evaluate. You can also send us pictures if you have a question about your rubberband pattern or oral hygiene! It’s really easy to do and even easier if you can use spoons to retract your cheeks. That way you don’t have to stick your fingers in your mouth and we can see your teeth better with your cheeks out of the way. You can email the pictures to whichever office you normally go to:

You can also give our offices a call and they will give you the number to contact your orthodontist directly.
We can’t wait to see you again in person, but know we are here for you in the meantime. Don’t hesitate to reach out!
MN Governor Walz has extended the stay at home order and the restrictions on any elective medical and dental procedures, including orthodontics. Therefore, we are not able to open April 13th as we had previously hoped. We will continue to keep you updated as we get more information and guidance from health and governing officials. Again, we are available for emergencies and to talk to our patients and their parents regarding treatment. We hope everyone is staying at home and healthy. We miss our patients and can’t wait to see you again!
The American Association of Orthodontics has some helpful tips for handling orthodontic issues at home! As always, feel free to call if there are any concerns!
Due to the Minnesota governor’s Stay at Home order, we will remain closed for the next two weeks. If you have an appointment during that time our office will be contacting you to reschedule. If you have any concerns or questions please reach out to our offices; Dr. Vayda and Dr. McMahon are always available to discuss your treatment! In case of an orthodontic emergency we can see you to make you comfortable or talk you through problems that can be solved at home. Thank you for your understanding; we are closely following the guidelines of our state, dental and health authorities and we will keep you informed as this situation is constantly developing. We miss seeing your smiling faces and can’t wait to be back with our patients and work family. Please stay safe and healthy during this unprecedented time!

Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update:
To all our valued orthodontic patients and families,
We have just received a notice from the Minnesota Board of Dentistry requesting that we close our clinic for the next Two Weeks.
Our first priority is the safety of our patients, their families and our staff so we will be following these instructions. We will be contacting all patients that have an appointment in the next two weeks to reschedule their appointments.
We thank all of you for your understanding during this trying time. We will keep you informed as we receive guidance from the health authorities. In the meantime, thank you for your understanding, your patience and most of all, for being a part of this incredible community. Be well and take care of one another.
