*A second play area, divided into separate zones, in order to provide specialized training

*An on site medical facility for proper medical quarantine (as needed), vaccinations, and other basic health treatments

*A grooming facility for proper care

*A visitors meet and greet for potential adopters and foster care providers

*A sanctuary for the extra special dogs needing a professional structured environments in order for them to live safer and happier lives (these animals will never be killed, or sent to kill shelters)

*A residential building to accommodate staff for overseeing daily operations

*Looking forward, we will remain open to other ideas, goals and growth

OUR MISSION:

Can Do Rescue Group Rhode Island is a non-profit, volunteer based organization. We are devoted to rescuing dogs left homeless for any reason, dogs in public shelters where they are at high risk of euthanasia due to pet overpopulation, dogs given up by their owners because of difficult circumstances, those having experienced abuse or neglect, and just for being born a "Pit Bull". Can Do Rescue specializes in Pit Bulls and bully breeds but does not discriminate against any other breed, age, or dogs with pre-existing medical conditions.

Before we even consider placing a dog with a new forever-family, each dog is professionally assessed, trained, and socialized, to ensure that their next home will be their last. We place dogs in loving, responsible, committed, permanent homes, following a comprehensive adoption process. The adoption process includes an interview with the potential adopters, a home-check and follow-up to ensure that the dog will thrive in his or her new environment, and some in-house training sessions with the new owners to ensure a positive and successful integration for all.

We are committed to providing the dogs that come into Can-Do Rescue with the best possible care while they wait for their forever homes by acclimating them to life outside of a shelter and providing the appropriate in-house veterinary care, such as spay, neuter, and all appropriate vaccinations. Until land is acquired where the rescue and sanctuary will be built, dogs are currently placed in nurturing foster homes while they await placement in their permanent ‘furrever’ homes.

Our staff is made up entirely of volunteers in order to ensure that all funding goes directly to the care of the animals. Can Do Rescue remains interested in and committed to the welfare of the dog beyond the adoption process.

Once our sanctuary is set up, we will strive to work with area shelters, other rescue organizations, and local humane organizations to develop a network of supporters and volunteers in order to create a better world for homeless pets.

Can Do Rescue is a section 501(c)(3) no-kill dog rescue group, incorporated in May of 2017, with years of animal rescue experience amongst our volunteers. Can Do Rescue is committed to helping the most needy and vulnerable dogs as well as those who are readily adoptable.

We are a volunteer-driven organization dedicated to restoring the dogs under our care to physical and emotional health as they await placement in loving, responsible homes.

Can-Do Rescue stands ready to help you, the prospective adopter or foster home, find a companion who will thrive in your home. We are here to assist you in every way possible throughout the adoption process and will continue to be a helpful resource after you have welcomed your new pets into your life.

CAN DO FOUNDER:
Gregory is a Massachusetts native, currently residing in Providence, Rhode Island. He grew up in New Bedford and East Freetown, Massachusetts.Gregory serves as the Chairman Of The Board , Chief Executive Officer (CEO) & Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Can Do Rescue Group, Gregory's passion for rescue and the Pit Bull started at a very young age. Inspired by his father and mentor who founded Can Do Kennels in the 1970s. Gregory realized then, that the Pit Bull was a greatly misunderstood breed and since then his dream has been to operate a safe rescue and sanctuary. He, as a child also made a promise and has made it his lifetime goal to raise awareness and increase exposure for the plight of the breed. Creating ten volunteer online groups and two pages to accomplish his mission, his online community currently encompasses approximately 54,000 members. Gregory's hope is to abolish the negative stereotype, end "BSL" or Breed Specific Legislation, help to make America No Kill and to build and operate the Rescue and Sanctuary. He continues to advocate strongly for the breed and will never stop defending them with nothing less than the truth. Gregory is not only a volunteer but also a donor and has committed to donating a minimum of 10% of his gross monthly salary
In addition to his love of animals and quality time spent walking in the park with his American Pit Bull Terriers, Zakiah Princess and Isaac Prince. Gregory enjoys attending church services, working out, boxing and martial arts.

RHODE ISLAND (5)

HOW DOES YOUR STATE RANK?

CLICK ON LINK PROVIDED BELOW TO FIND OUT.

SAN FRANCISCO—The Animal Legal Defense Fund, the nation’s preeminent legal advocacy organization for animals, released the 12th annual year-end report (2017) ranking the animal protection laws of all 50 states. For the 10th year in a row, Illinois is in first place—followed by Oregon (2), California (3), Maine (4), and Rhode Island (5). Kentucky holds firmly to last place for the 11th consecutive year. It trails Iowa (49), Wyoming (48), Utah (47), and North Dakota (46) as the state with the weakest animal protection laws.

The patchwork of state and local laws is animals’ primary protection. The strength of these laws varies widely, making the Rankings Report a vital resource for anyone interested in helping animals. The Rankings are based on a comprehensive review of each jurisdiction’s animal protection laws including over 4,000 pages of statutes. This is the longest-running and most authoritative report of its kind, and tracks which states are taking animal protection seriously.

Pennsylvania is the most-improved state this year, jumping 20 places up to number 24. This achievement is thanks to major improvements like a new felony provision for first-time offenders of aggravated animal cruelty (including torture), and granting civil immunity to veterinarians who report suspected animal abuse.

The 2017 Rankings Report also highlights a trend in laws aiming to end the tragedy of animals dying in hot cars. Public awareness campaigns have helped improve the situation, but legislation is also a key component. This year’s Rankings Report is promising, showing more states granting civil immunity for removing animals from hot vehicles. Immunity laws ensure that people who rescue animals from vehicles in emergency situations are not then faced with lawsuits from owners. Arizona, California, Colorado, Indiana, Massachusetts, Nevada, and Oregon all enacted these “reckless endangerment” provisions this year. In all, more than 25 states now have some type of “hot cars” law on the books.

More than half of all states significantly improved their animal protection laws in the last five years. Improvements come in many forms including stiffer penalties for offenders, stronger standards of care for animals, animal cruelty reporting by veterinarians, mental health evaluations and counseling for offenders, banning animal ownership following cruelty convictions and including animals in domestic violence protective orders.

“Unfortunately, laws protecting animals can vary widely from state to state,” says Animal Legal Defense Fund Executive Director Stephen Wells. “Our annual U.S. Animal Protection Laws Rankings provides a tool for animal advocates, shelters and even legislators to gauge the relative effectiveness of their state’s animal protection laws and provides guidance for making positive changes.”
