These watermelons are Charleston greys, or as you may know them, "old time melons". These were among the first melons to he grown by farmers in the USA, which makes them a classic favorite. Their distinct light green color combined with an elongated shape make them the most eye catching melon we sell. They're also great for putting in fridges and have firmer meat than jubilees and crimson sweets, which means they're the most durable watermelons and can be transported in a car or truck easily without losing their taste! If you like classic sweetness mixed with a firm bite, these melons are for you (but they are not found in most stores!)

This is a watermelon known as a jubilee. Jubilees have stripes, like crimson sweets, but they are elongated and tend to fit better in fridges. Some say they are just as sweet as crimson sweets, just not as juice-filled, which means they are the mess-free, "kid friendly" type for parents concerned about messes! Most stores DO NOT sell these types of watermelon!

Crimson sweets are the kind of watermelon you see in stores (except they cost about $6 there as opposed to $2 with us!). Many call them the "sweetest" melons around. They tend to be juicier and the meat of the melon is softer. If you like sweet, juicy watermelons, this is the one for you!

Hi, everyone! Sorry we haven't been posting much lately. We really can't get into field too much with all of this crazy rain! The watermelons are looking good though! They're getting so much bigger... They'll probably be ready within the next two weeks! Hooray!

Timeline photos 28/06/2013

The watermelons are coming along so nicely! I think they're ready for the second round of natural fertilizer and then the first harvest shortly after that!

Wow, another little watermelon! They grow even faster each time we hoe the field and oxygenate the soil! Maybe they'll even be ready sooner than expected! :)

There is a flash flood warning in effect for the carthage area until 7:30pm tonight! Everyone please stay safe! :)

The best way to start off a long day of cleaning and working in the field! Bacon and cheddar scrambled eggs and sweet caramel French vanilla coffee. :)

Just an update for everyone:
Our watermelons will be done growing between mid July and early August. We will not sell until the first harvest! We will be located on the corner of the intersection between Joel road and Niagra Carthage road in Carthage. We will travel to Aberdeen once a week and sell at the corner of the intersection between Tripp's and the Kangaroo gas station. The dates and times we will be in Aberdeen will be posted on this page!
Carthage price-$2
Aberdeen price-$3 (due to gas prices)
For our kickoff event, we may hold a watermelon eating contest. The entry fee would be $3 per person and the prize would be the very first watermelon harvested this year!
Keep checking our page for updates regarding our kickoff event and much more! :)
-Sincerely, The Baker Family

Farming sure does take a lot of work, but making people happy and carrying on a tradition makes it all worth it!

Hello, Facebook! Get ready for our watermelons! Based on what the plants look like, they should be ready to enjoy by mid/end of July! Not too far at all! We're planning a kick off event. Any suggestions?
