Positive Tomorrows
A private, tuition-free school serving families experiencing homelessness.
We help by meeting basic needs of our children to remove barriers to learning, by teaching families to become self-sufficient and by providing education to children who are academically and socially behind due to the chaos in their lives. In reality, we provide something much greater than the sum of our programs β we give hope today, along with the promise for a better tomorrow.
I think we may have a few future firefighters in our midst. π₯π Thank you Oklahoma City Fire Department for showing us the ropes this week!
Yesterday our kids took a trip to the bookstore to browse for their next read and watch a magic show. Every child got to pick out a book of their very own to take home with them. π Thank you, Travis Mason and Full Circle Bookstore for making this day so special for our students!
Summer camp may look a little less structured than the school year, but we're still learning every day! Check out these 1st-grade scientists and their hands-on volcano lesson.
Please help us congratulate our Lead Classroom Assistant, Gill Dudley (lovingly referred to by our kiddos as "Coach G."). After lots of hard work and dedication, she passed her exam and obtained her CDL to drive our school buses. Transportation is a crucial piece of our work to remove barriers, and we're so grateful for her commitment to our students! π Beep beep!
One of the goals of our camps and extracurricular programs is to provide access to first experiences and activities our kiddos may not have the luxury of doing as often as their peers.
Our campers went to the movies last week, many of them for the very first time. One Pre-K friend was particularly thrilled about his "robot chair" and was pumped that it even had a cup holder! On the way out, another student told their teacher that the day was "10 out of 10, would definitely recommend!"
With your help, we provided 14,962 instances of transportation last year. This , we are looking to fill a car seat need that empowers us to provide safe transportation for all our students. Help us BOOST our students into the next school year by purchasing a booster seat for a PT van from the top of our Amazon Wish List https://a.co/6q62Uvz
Thank you Blue Zoo Oklahoma City for sponsoring a field trip for our kiddos! We fed birds and fish, touched turtles and stingrays, and played at water tables and on climbing walls. Our students had the chance to have so many new experiences all in one place - it was a wonderful day!
As the only school in Oklahoma designed for kids experiencing homelessness, the first days of school can set the stage for the entire year with our students. We ensure each child starts on the right track by providing everything they need to succeed. We rely on the community to make it happen and would love for you to be part of supporting our families.
Our "High Five" supply needs are headphones (wired), folders with brads, backpacks, EXPO dry-erase markers, and lamination sheets. On this , please consider making a purchase from our Back to School Amazon Wish List. Thank you for making a difference as students head back to school! https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/MPZKBMC5SQES
Positive Tomorrows will be closed next week, July 1-5. We look forward to seeing everyone when we resume summer break camp on Monday, July 8!
Grateful to experience some classic outdoor summer fun without limits at Camp Twin Cedars! Our kiddos got the chance to try so many activities that were brand new to them, including fishing, axe throwing, paddle boats, and a slip 'n slide. π£ π² π£ββοΈ
Stay cool, stay safe! βοΈ β οΈ Check out this list of local spaces for respite during hot summer temps.
The heat is here to stay. Here are some free spaces or cooling stations where anyone can beat the heat.
If your business or organization wants to be added to this list, send us a private message.
Keep an eye out for other ways you can help our neighbors who are unhoused during summertime. Service providers often need bottled water, sunscreen, bug spray and more.
We want each student to walk into their classroom in early August with everything they need to succeed. We rely on the community to make that happen and would love for you to be a part of it! We are so excited about the addition of two Buddy Benches in our backyard this week, installed by Sam Edwards of Last Frontier Council Troop 4 as his Eagle project. π Buddy Benches provide a place for students to go if they are looking for a friend. Kiddos are encouraged to watch out for peers on the Buddy Bench and include them in their activities.
What a wonderful way to promote connection and inclusivity among our students! Thank you to Sam and his friends and family for making this possible.
Weβre so lucky to have partners like Ball Golf Center! They host our entire summer camp group each year for a fun day of golf and pizza. PGA Professionals volunteer and introduce golf basics to our kids, an activity most of them have never been exposed to before. Several of our older students also have the opportunity to attend golf lessons with Mr. Stan year-round. Participating in sports can greatly impact kids, teaching them self-confidence and perseverance. Thank you, Ball Golf and friends, for investing in the lives of our students!
Thank you Oklahoma City Zoo and Botanical Garden for sponsoring a visit for our students on Friday! ππ π’ We had the best time exploring and making memories together.
Traveling artists Leah Smith and Michael Townsend from Tape Art helped our 4th - 7th graders transform our gym using works of art made from tape! The Tape Art group worked with the Oklahoma Arts Council in the aftermath of the Alfred P. Murray bombing on a collection of incredible public art and teaching activities that cumulated in a massive mural at the heart of the rescue center. Catch Michael in the Oklahoma premiere of Secret Mall Apartment, showing at deadCenter Film this weekend!
When school is out of session, we give kiddos a safe and fun place to spend their days through our break camp program. This our summer teachers have curated our Amazon Wish List with items personalized for each grade level. These supplies will be used to maximize fun and learning while students are here during summer break camp! https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/H1GIHBVJ7BEV
Summer is a time for exploration, laughter, and fun for children everywhere. It's a season of possibility, where imaginations run wild and friendships are forged. But for many kids, summer means long days unsupervised and isolation from social activities. It also means increased stress for parents trying to make ends meet.
For families experiencing homelessness, the joy and learning that summer can bring are often just out of reach. That's why this week, we welcomed current and former students to summer camp at no cost to parents.
Kids get to experience all the magic of summer, and families can continue pursuing housing and employment goals while knowing their children are in a secure and engaging space.
With your support, we can provide a space where children who face the daily challenges of homelessness can forget their worries and just be kids.
Will you join us to create lasting summer memories for our students? https://www.positivetomorrows.org/summer-camp/
This is a safe school to be myself. π
Itβs the affirmation we make loud and clear to anyone who walks through our doors. Our goal each day is to make sure everyone leaves our school feeling loved, respected, and encouraged to be who they are and pursue whatever they want in life.
Safety and belonging are at the heart of everything we do. Positive Tomorrows is proud to celebrate Pride this month in support of our students, staff, and families.
We are thrilled to celebrate one of PT's dedicated case managers, Nayma Mendieta, for graduating from OU with a Masterβs in Social Work! ππ Nayma has an unwavering dedication to making a positive impact. Her hard work, passion, and commitment to supporting families inspire us every day. Please join us in congratulating her on this achievement!
We wrapped up the final week of the school year with everyone's favorite - Super Kids Day! Students participated in fun field games and topped off the afternoon with a pizza party generously sponsored by our friends at 84 Hospitality Group / Empire Slice House. πThank you to everyone who played a part in making this event so memorable for our kiddos!
We're looking for three more summer staffers! βοΈ Each year, our summer break camp provides learning and enrichment activities outside the regular classroom. Summer camp counselors provide a safe, fun, and educational atmosphere where students experiencing homelessness have the opportunity for academic, socio-emotional, and physical growth during camp.

Congratulations to 5th grader, Aiden! Back in February, our friends from the National Association of Women in Construction sponsored the Block Kids competition at our school. Block Kids is a building competition introducing children to construction. Students have an hour to build a structure out of Legos, string, a rock, and foil. Aiden was our schoolβs 1st place winner and advanced to the regional competition and WON! π His creation will go on to the national program. Thank you to our local NAWIC OKC Chapter #383 Page for sponsoring this event and hosting a pizza party for Aiden's class to celebrate.
Thank you, Miss Oklahoma Organization, Sunny Day for hosting a motivational assembly for our kids this morning. We are so inspired by your tenacity and perseverance! On the way into the gym one of our Pre-K friends exclaimed, "I'm off to see a princess!" π₯°
