LainyArt
Hi! I'm Lainy, I create custom portraits and artwork with pastels and charcoal.
Still surviving π©· Still creating πΈ
We're back up & running! Super shout-out to my amazing brother for trudging through the computer misery with me. You're the best! β€
I've taken a couple days to catch up on work and tomorrow I'm back to sharing some of my recent holiday portraits.... that already feels like AGES ago π
I hope you're all staying safe and warm out there!
Hit a bit of a speedbump with a dead laptop. Hoping to be back to sharing soon!
Looks like the deep freeze isn't quite done with Colorado yet. Another chilly weekend is brewing βοΈ Stay toasty out there!
I'm open for commissions - Big and small β€ Send me a message to get started.
--Created with Panpastels, pastel pencils, charcoal, on Strathmore charcoal paper--
I'm so excited to share a bunch of new work this year! First up is this baby that has the right idea for the day - bundled up in blankets. It's currently a toasty -18f with windchill π₯Ά Think I'll stay with my blankets, too!
Happy Monday! I know this time of year is full of resolutions and big goals - this year my goal is focused on peace: Stilling my mind and structuring my life in a way that takes away little stresses so the big picture is clearer. Drawing and sketching is a big part of that for me. Mindfulness and slowing down can be hard in this world but this is my FAVORITE way to do it.
Do you have favorite ways of slowing down? Little bits of stillness throughout your day?
(created with General's charcoal, panpastels on Strathmore toned paper)
It's that time of year again! Art vs Artist is going around so here's some of my favorites!
I'm so excited for the new year and all the new art I'll get to create and share in it. π¨π
I'm so excited to start sharing more of these as they are gifted! They've been so fun to create and see people's reactions! This cutie is Scout π
Happy Winter Solstice! Tonight will be the longest night of the year so I thought I'd celebrate with this nighttime landscape created with pastels. I hope you're all having a good countdown to the holidays!
Itβs my birthday today and Iβm exhausted and entirely GRATEFUL. Iβve been indulging in a crammed-full schedule of creation, going 12+ hours each day and my soul knows this is where I belong. This is where my heart is happiest: seeing people thrilled and near tears with what I create for them to gift to their loved ones.
I write down the name of every person and pet I draw for and my little white board is full. Full of names and faces I get to learn and study and draw. Iβm elated at each finished piece. I canβt really put in to words the fulfillment that brings.
I love this.
I love this work and seeing how much it means to others.
As I near the end of this busy holiday season, Iβm SO Thankful for each and every person who chose me to create something special to gift. Iβm SO honored that you chose to support me, so that I can keep doing what I love.
With every bit of my heart, THANK YOU so much! β€
The weather keeps teasing snow and I'm SO looking forward to it! I'm also looking forward to sharing some of my new work soon (just as soon as they've been gifted!)
Until then, I'll just brighten your feeds with some original favs βοΈ
Hope you're all having a good day ππ
This cozy elder rescue is Rick - a wonderful reminder that adopting the older, wiser kitties is full of rewarding experiences!
If you happen to be looking for a new furry family member this holiday season, don't skip over the older ones. They have SO much to give π
Rick's portrait was created with Panpastels, Derwent Pastel pencils, and general's charcoal on Strathmore 500 series charcoal paper.
I've been having a blast creating these and I'm so excited to share all of them when they've been gifted! This guy is Sterling, a real special, blind wooly husky. He has stars in his eyes and it was such an honor to draw him for his person. β€β¨
Thank you all so much for the support you've shown this season - it means the world! As a thank you, I'm a running a big sale ππ
Thank you for supporting artists and other small businesses today, I wouldn't be able to keep doing what I love without you. β€

This is one of my favorite drawings that really allowed me to slow down and enjoy the tiny details... something that's hard to do in life. So here's your reminder to slow down and enjoy your weekend.πΏHappy Friday everyone!
After the long adventure with Ghost, this beauty's portrait felt short and sweet - and just as refreshing. I hope to dip my toes back into more greyscale work soon!
π I have more openings available for Christmas portraits! Send me your favorite pictures to get started. π
Created with Panpastels and general's charcoal on Strathmore 500 series charcoal paper.
This sweet little face is Poppy, my sister's beautiful piggy. I knew guinea pigs would be the perfect fit for my new wood ornament portraits and now I might just have to draw all 11 of our current pigs. π
If you'd like one for yourself or to give as a gift, they're up on my shop for you!

Black and white portraits are such a treat for me to do. They feel homey and nostalgic since that's where I started in portraiture. The rich blacks and pops of white details is something I think I'll always crave in my work π€
Trying something new!
Pastel pieces on real wood slices.... And let me start by saying, I've been having a blast creating them!
I started with family pets - like my brother's husky Boomer. β€ And I've got several more to share already - I've been enjoying them so much and I hope I get to draw some of your pets on them too!
They're available on my Etsy or you can send me a message to get started!

Ghost is all finished! This is a 24x36 inch piece and I loved having all that extra space to play with detail in Ghost AND in that beautiful hilly background.
β€I still have a few holiday commission spaces open! Please message me to get started β€
Ghost was created with Carbothello and Derwent Pastel Pencils, Panpastels, and General's Charcoal on Pastelmat.
Only a few little pebbles left to go - I really loved the addition of the expansive landscape with Ghost's portrait. SO refreshing πΏ
Also, just a little reminder: My custom portraits are currently 30% off! That means you can get a full color 8x10 for $171 β‘In time for Christmas
Happy Halloween!!
I hope you all have a fun and safe time celebrating!
Look at that beautiful sunny view. Nothing at all like today - we got our first snow of the season coming down. ββοΈ
Happy National Black Cat Day!!

The eyes are the most impactful part of a portrait and Ghost really draws you in with those speckled blues!
Ghost with his head in the clouds βοΈ The sky was such a fun, loose section of this portrait! This one was equal parts pup and landscape and I loved every bit of it.
Now that I can share again, let's start from the beginning! This is Ghost, and he's the biggest single pup portrait I've ever done - and the piece I used to 'break in' my studio's new addition: my first proper floor easel. It was absolutely essential in creating this piece and has already been home to a couple more large portraits.
I'd love to film a studio tour someday and share my other essentials and favorites - but for now, this journey is about Ghost. Pretty fitting month to share his story, right? π»π
