Savannah River Stringband

Savannah River Stringband

A band was formed out of open jams back in 2006. We play festivals, fairs, churches, private groups, and anywhere traditional music wants to be heard.

The hammered dulcimers are the lead instruments with fiddles, guitars, mandolins, bouzouki, bass, etc. filling out the band. The music is live, energetic and fun. And we have fun playing it for you!

Today we played our third gig in three days! Whew! I'm glad it's over!
We played for a Christmas luncheon and what an audience - they absolutely loved us. We did all Christmas music for about 45 minutes. It gets everybody in the Christmas spirit. Good times! Afterward we went out to lunch to celebrate our successes with burgers and fries at City Billiards in Aiken.

Yesterday's gig: Dinner Entertainment.

Today, once again, we played at USCAiken for the Center for Lifelong Learning Holiday Tea. It's always been a well-received performance. Two hours of Christmas tunes with maybe one or two fiddle tunes mixed in, just 'cause we like 'em.

This week's performance was at St. John’s Methodist Church. Sunny Monday is a monthly meeting and lunch. We were the entertainment. Afterwords we enjoyed a wonderful lunch with the
Congregants. They enjoyed our set. We presented a story line along with our music.

Here's our next gig - Cedar Creek Art Fair on October 14. Come on out, it's free!

I had to put my Cleo down today. So sad. She was Don’s kitty and I loved her too. I will miss her so much. She was such a sweet little girl. The house will feel so lonely without her around. She had lung issues.

Our group made it on the cover of a local magazine! We're hoping to get some new players and maybe get some new play dates.

We had a wonderful time today at First Baptist Church of North Augusta. We played for their Senior group luncheon and then they fed lunch! It was great. We played many tunes that they enjoyed and they were very much appreciative.

Tonight the band played for a holiday party for cancer patients in Evans, Georgia. It was at the Cork and Flame, hosted by their doctor. This band is a pgreat bunch of musicians to play with! We mixed Xmas music with some of our favorite traditional tunes. We were well received, as usual.

This week was our opportunity to play at USCAIKEN for the Center for Lifelong Learning holiday tea. We mixed Christmas tunes with our traditional tunes. As always, we were very well received. In fact one guest came up to us and said we were “perfect” for the venue. What a nice thing for her to say.

In between rain showers today the Savannah River Stringband played for visitors to the Cedar Creek Art in the Park event. It was hot and humid and my dulcimer did not like that. But we persevered and made the day enjoyable for the shoppers. Kudos to the band!

The band will be playing this Saturday November 5 from noon to 1:15. Cedar Creek Art in the Park. Just come out to Cedar Creek and you’ll see signs to the Fair. It's a nice, relaxing kind of event. Should be a pretty Fall afternoon.

Yesterday the band played at Trinity on the Hill Methodist Church in Augusta, GA. We entertained about 65 seniors and then lunched with them. So good to have another playdate. We haven't had many since the pandemic began. Each playdate is a unique experience. We got a standing ovation, too!

Despite the thunderstorms earlier, the canal cruise did happen. We entertained the sell-out crowd on an overcast but comfortable evening. Beautiful sunset, too. The Savannah River Stringband was very appreciated. We did a lot of “water tunes” along with out standards. A beautiful evening in May.

First gig of 2022 - Art in the Park in Cedar Creek, Aiken, SC.
We played for 2 hours on a beautiful day - except for the oak pollen which plagued me. Difficult to play the dulcimer with bleary teary eyes. But we/I persevered and enjoyed entertaining the shoppers who strolled by.
Next gig is the Augusta Canal Moonlight Cruise on Saturday, May 21. Always fun! 😀

We had 4 Christmas gigs this year. First we played for the Aiken military officers holiday dinner, then for the Center for Lifelong Learning holiday gathering, the for the DAR open house at Meadow Garden and lastly for cancer patient’s dinner at the Cork & Flame in Evans, GA. A good way to spend the Christmas season!
