Lovely article in the Democrat featuring our President, Carla Connors.
Please sign this petition. It won't help The Artist Series, but it will help other Arts organizations. Please donate to The Artist Series. The legislators removed $25,000 in funding for us and others in the State of Florida, before the DeSantis veto.
Sign the Petition Urge Governor Ron DeSantis to Reinstate Funding for the Arts in Florida
It's sad that these two Fringe Festivals would even have to consider this, but, wow! This would help so many nonprofit organizations in the State of Florida if DeSantis would reconsider. NOTE: This would not help The Artist Series of Tallahassee as our funding was cut by the State legislature before it even reached the Governor. They axed $4 million from the proposed budget that would have helped many smaller nonprofits.
Theater festivals offer to give up their grants if DeSantis restores funding for Florida arts groups Leaders of two performing arts festivals say that they will gladly give up their grants if Florida Gov.
Thank you, Frank Cerabino. Be informed.
Hoping you read the Opinion piece in today's Tallahassee Democrat. Thank you, Michael, for writing this. Many people don't realize what Governor DeSantis has done to ALL of the Arts in Florida, including The Artist Series of Tallahassee. The Artist Series was denied $25,000 that we were vetted to receive through a strenuous grant process. And then the Senate and House decided to eliminate the "line item" that would have funded $4 million dollars for smaller Arts nonprofits. Then, most recently as was reported in several news sources, DeSantis decided to eliminate ALL funding for ALL Arts organizations in the State of Florida-$32 million, which had already been reduced from around $76 million. He has caused irreparable damage to many Arts organizations. Many may not be able to make it beyond this year. Think of the ballet, symphony, choirs, theatre, children's programs, educational outreach programs and so on.
Our programs are the mark of a civilized world. Our programs educate children and give them purpose, meaning, and the road to find beauty, intelligence, and heart and understanding in an otherwise brutal world.
Not to mention--a HUGE loss in jobs and tourism without the Arts.
From a friend: When Winston Churchill was asked to cut Arts funding in favor of the war effort, he simply replied, "Then what are we fighting for?"
