Tribute.

George Darafeev, 66, of Corona, California, passed away on Friday, December 4, 2020, at home unexpectedly, after experiencing chest pains, earlier that morning.

George was born on December 14, 1953 in Los Angeles, California. He graduated from Rosemead High School in Rosemead California in 1972, and barely avoided the draft, when his father, Mikhail, was diagnosed with stomach cancer, and subsequently passed away the following year.

This was the beginning of a 47 year career in the family furniture manufacturing business. George had always called himself the "nuts and bolts guy". He was instrumental in expanding Darafeev in 1999, when he found a very suitable building in Chino California, and had a free hand in laying out the finishing, upholstery, and distribution lines. To this day, clients and suppliers hail this as a manufacturing marvel, unequaled in the Western US.

George had always resisted 'off shoring' the production, and would say "The day that people stop asking for quality furniture, I'm going fishing." Well that day never came, because the company kept growing, even after many US firms shut down domestic production.

George married Barbara Furler in 1977, in Los Angeles, California and started a family. They have three children, George Jr., Natalie, and Jennie.

He is survived by his wife and children, his brothers Paul and Michael, and sister Kathy and numerous aunts, uncles, nephews, cousins and a nieces.

Myiasis is very common on injured wildlife, and on orphaned babies.

PLEASE SPREAD THE WORD - if you see these white things on an animal it is in trouble and needs immediate help!

These are fly eggs and will hatch in less than 24 hours. Once they do, maggots will wreak havoc on the poor animal they are attached to. Every animal we have received this week has had these.

Flies lay their eggs on animals they sense to be dying so their larva can feast on it. Because they tend to lay 150 at a time, it doesn’t take long for freshly hatched larva to cause severe damage to the host.

If you see these on an animal, don’t wait to call someone. They need help IMMEDIATELY. Please call your local wildlife rehabilitator.

This little gray squirrel came in with two of his siblings last night. All of them were covered in these eggs. Luckily none had hatched yet and we were able to get them all off. All are doing well today.

Let’s spread the word to prevent as much suffering as possible. Knowledge is power and the more we know the more we can help.
