We will be discussing the current situation in Myanmar, where a genocide is being perpetrated against the Rohingya people. We are also still raising funds for Venezuela, so bring in anything you can because the fundraiser is ending soon. The dollar store behind N chapel street has some great stuff!
What's going on in Myanmar is tragic, but isn't as well-known around the world. Here are some articles that give a good synposis of the situation:

UD SPRING CRISIS COMMITTEE (UDSCC)
Next Thursday, April 27th
7-9pm
Ewing 210
The Crisis Committee is…
BREXIT NEGOTIATIONS!
The crisis will start the day Theresa May triggered Article 50. Everyone will be representing a leader from a European Union country (excluding the United Kingdom). You will be tasked with deciding what is best for your country and the European Union as a whole. You will work together to create a comprehensive agreement between the exiting UK and the EU (note: in actuality these negotiations will be done with EU officials, however, we found EU leaders to be more interesting characters to play)! Expect many surprises, not everything will be about Brexit!
If you have never participated at a conference OR even a crisis committee this is the PERFECT opportunity to come practice! We do not expect you to play a major role if it is your first time, and if you don't want a position in committee just come watch and learn!

Hey Everyone,
It’s time for our first meeting of the semester! Our first meeting is TONIGHT at 7pm in Ewing 210. Our second meeting will be next Tuesday March 7th at 7pm in Ewing 210.
At the meeting, we will be reintroducing the club to any potential new members and decide on potential discussion topics for the rest of the semester and any suggestions for the club. In the meantime, our first topic will be the growth of Fake News across both sides of the political spectrum, and how the sources of much of it are surprisingly international.
Here are a few articles that you can read over on the topic. If you would like to do additional research, you are surely welcome to do so!
These articles from NBC and BBC are about Macedonian teens profiting from the fake news industry during the election.

http://www.bbc.com/news/magazine-38168281
This article from the Guardian talks on how the left, like the right, has a problem with fake news, particularly after the election.
https://www.theguardian.com/media/2017/feb/06/liberal-fake-news-shift-trump-standing-rock
Questions to think about:
Is fake news easy to spot?
What happens when fake news spreads? What actions can I take to verify news stories, photographs and other sources of online information?
What can companies like Facebook do to stop users from spreading fake news? Should they do this?
What can ordinary people do to not be caught by fake news?
See you all soon!

In lieu of a final semester meeting this week, we are asking anyone who can to come to an event this Thursday evening. The event is a fundraiser and Social for the Syrian Refugees and is being hosted by UD's RSO "Students for Justice in Palestine" (SJP). It will be in Trabant Student from 8:00-10:00pm and feature a cash/winter supplies collection as well as a performer. There will also be some food and snacks provided.
As you know, the UDIRC is a non-partisan, international based group. We know the Syrian Refugee Crisis is a very sensitive topic due to the controversy regarding the civil war, which is why we are asking you to all focus on the humanitarian aspect of this issue. As you know, there is a huge influx of Syrian refugees fleeing their country into parts of Europe and bordering nations. As a Model United Nations organization, we are attempting to bring together students around campus to help those in need. We encourage you all to attend and to tell your friends to do the same!
