Is self-care overrated? We don't think so...

" I fight for self care any chance I get. It's so difficult at times to really carve out space but self care to me is different at different times and with different moods. I would say, the foundation of self care for me, is valuing myself ENOUGH to remember that I am worthy of time off and time to myself."

- Carly, Founder of

So do you believe you're worthy of time off and time to yourself? We do!

Here's a mini self-care cheat sheet to help you get started:

- Sweat it out
- Watch the sunrise or sunset
- Schedule any needed check ups
- Do some Journaling
- Call a Friend
- Table a bubble bath

Happy Self-caring,

The Primary Petals Team

Spring is just around the corner and our spring bouquet is coming out from winter hibernation! 🌻

She's beauty and she's grace. She's queen of our Spring Bouquet. She's Miss. Sunflower of the United States.

Well, we're entirely wrong because Sunflowers ARE indigenous to the America's. They were exported to the rest of the world in the 1500s.

And it should come as no surprise that sunflowers get their name because they indulge in a practice called heliotropism. Their beautiful faces face east in the morning and continue to follow the light of the sun as the earth moves during the day.

In 2012, U.S. astronaut Don Pettit brought along a few sunflower seeds to the International Space Station. Petit regularly blogged about his budding friendship and shared photos of the gardening process.

Now don't get us wrong, we love hard-work, productivity, and getting sh*t done, but we also know the value in practicing self-caring. One way we do this is through practicing gratitude.

When was the last time you stopped to smell the roses? Roses, of course, being a metaphor for the little moments of beauty we can sometimes overlook.

So let's keep it simple, grab a notebook, or open your phone to a note and jot down some quick answers.

- What is one thing that made you smile today?
- What is your favorite self-care routine that brings you joy? (Make some time to do that soon.)
- List some of the best decisions you've ever made.

In a article titled, “The Science of Gratitude” (2018), several benefits to a gratitude practice included:

- increased happiness and positive mood
- more satisfaction with life
- less materialistic
- less likely to experience burnout

We LOVE the sound of that!

Today is Floral Friday where we peak into the beautiful blooms we send straight to your doorstep...

For a while carnations were seen as the “less desirable” flower in the floral industry, but she's making a come back!

Did you know carnations are known as the “flowers of the gods” and have over 300 varieties worldwide?

It's believed that the name carnation comes from the word “coronation” as these flowers are used in Greek ceremonial head crowns.

We love to use carnations in our bouquets because they travel so well. These blooms can stay fresh for up to 14 days ensuring you get to enjoy your bouquet as long as possible

At Primary Petals we value self-care. And they say a consistent morning routine is one of the key
foundations for self-care and success.

Here are 3 tips for finding yours:

• Access whether you're actually a morning person or not. Determine whether or not you're most productive in the morning or evening and then create a routine based on your energy level.

• Don't overstuff your morning. It's easy to want to do a lot, but start small with a couple of consistent habits like a skincare routine, a cup of coffee you actually sit down to enjoy, or a gratitude list.

• Switch it up! If you're routine just isn't working try something new. Don't get stuck in a rut if it isn't what' best for you.

We've got some tips and tricks to making your bouquets last as long as possible! 💐💐💐

• Once your blooms arrive unwrap their travel packaging.
• Fill the vase of your choice or included vase with cool, not cold tap water. There is no need to add anything to your vase, water is all your blooms need!
• Take a sharp knife or scissors and trim about 1/4 of an inch off the bottom of your stems
• Pop them into your vase and admire your beautiful blooms
• If your blooms are falling to one side, undo the tape on the arrangements and let them naturally fill the vase.
• If they are super floppy, they may be too tall for your vase, feel free to trim them shorter so they hold their form.
• Don't forget to refresh your water as needed.

For years, Primary Petals operated as a wedding and private event floral company. Since conception, we have created for big names and even bigger days (weddings). It has been a labor of love as each event was curated and brought from vision to conception. It has included very long hours, early mornings, and late nights.

Now we happily ship one time bouquets to your loved ones over the United States. To say it's been a fun time building the company would be a massive understatement.

P.S. It's totally okay if you just want to send them to yourself.

Ready to recharge?

Every year, around this time, I find myself evaluating how well I took care of myself the previous year and what I hope to change or build off of coming into the new year.

All of us have had different levels of stress, anxiety, and depression this past year. One thing I know to be true is that we always need, no matter our external circumstance, to carve out time for self care, rest and rejuvenation.

Here are a few things that help me when I’m feeling like I need a little time to recharge.

Take an Epsom Salt Bath 🛀
I have found that I carry anxiety and stress in my muscles so when it’s been a rough week or day, I like to soak in a hot bath for a good 20-30 minutes. This eases my racing mind, helps me sleep, and epsom salt greatly helps with relaxing muscles.

Do Something That Fills You Up! 🍳
As I am write this, I am realize that many things fill my tank up but one stands above the rest- cooking! There is something very meditative about chopping vegetables with a Netflix show in the background. I try new recipes every week and it gets me so excited to be creative in the kitchen. It also allows me to nourish my body well.

Take A Day To Reset 📅
You might cringe when I say take a reset day every week, but this practice has completely changed my life. Taking a whole day off of work has afforded me the mental capacity to be more productive the rest of the week. On my day off, I am very clear with my intentions. I will take it easy in the morning by enjoying a cup of tea and making a grocery list. I also run any errands to tie up loose ends. This keeps my brain organized, gets the fridge stocked for the week, and I rest with the knowledge that the small little things are taken care of! Setting myself up for success in this way has kept my anxiety levels to a minimum.I hope these tips are something that are as helpful to you as they have been to me!

Happy self-caring,

Carly, CEO

2. Stay Hydrated- This should go without saying, but you definitely need to you're drinking enough water during these winter months. Aim to drink half your body weight in ounces.

3. Hug your loved ones! Pets, Family, Friends, give them hugs! Physical touch boosts oxytocin giving you all the feel good hormones.
