This little number is pretty special actually. It’s made (the body) from an extra hard piece of Russian Olive wood I’ve been hanging onto forever. Some Russian Olive wood is very unique in the fact that it’s super duper hard. So hard, it dulls a very sharp brand new table saw blade with just a few cuts. This piece I had took forever to cut up into blanks and wasted a brand new blade, but I’m no dummy, so I knew to use a cheap brand new blade costing no more than $11. Still the smoke from the blade cutting it filled the shop.
On the other hand, it turns beautifully. Super duper hard wood is always fun to turn.
I like the combination too. An iron wood mouthpiece and briar bowl make for a very attractive pipe. I can’t wait to make a few more.
For 4/20 (Saturday), we finally tried out the Porthole Pipe with water.
I’ve been resinating it up without water for about a year to help seal up the joints. It worked. In fact it works amazing. It’s water tight. And this really is amazing for a wooden water pipe, without being sealed with a polyurethane finish inside.
The porthole pipe is basically a staved barrel, with glass windows on both sides. It’s put together super tight with hidden glue lines where water shouldn’t touch the glue. Therefore the resin from smoking it dry collects in the seams leading to glue lines. And really helps make the pipe water tight naturally.
It was a big success. A milestone really.
Hey everyone, I’ll be displaying my pipes for the third year in a row at the great MN Bluegrass Festival (Crown Plaza hotel in Plymouth) next weekend March 1-3. I got a great display, will work with you to get you into a great pipe for a good price. Remember, you will most likely carry this pipe and cherish it for the rest of your life. Most of my customers do. So please visit me. my pipes make excellent gifts too.
It’s a strange one alright. Coffee table pipe. Briar, ebony, Koa, Katalox burl, pipestone along with Meerschaum bowl and Mammoth ivory plus a clean out tool from ancient narwahl.
It’s actually a to***co pipe. A fine one indeed.
Double chamber pipe from briar, Ebony, Cumberland rubber, mammoth ivory & Meerschaum.
When smoke comes out of bowl, it splits in two, filling both chambers at once, before the smoke meets up again and swooshes up the stem and into your lungs. Why the double chamber?
To help cool the smoke and get a bigger hit. Hard to say if it’ll work, and would love to try it, but a used pipe is hard to sell.
I like to try new fb gimmicks out when they’re presented to me.
Since my table was built with bud board in mind, guess I should post it here too.
Looks great in our living room.
SAVE THE DATE:
TPPipe is having a show this coming Saturday Dec. 9th at the Turning Point Woodworks studio located at 2637 27th Ave. S. Mpls suite 112.
Come see lots of pipes, sculptures and art for sale.
Also you will see my 2023 Blue Ribbon winner Ark of the covenant pipe box.
Now that MN has legalized the green w**d, you have a good reason to buy that next pipe. A pipe you will not be disappointed with.
All TP pipes are made from the very best organic materials, without metal, very rarely glue. Each pipe breaks down for easy cleaning, you can swap out bowls for bigger party bowls or one hit bowls or in between, or different materials. All pipes come with an attractive custom sewn bag.
Light snacks and wine served. Maybe smoke a couple of bowls too.
Come on down. (Even if it’s just to say hello.)
So one thing about smoking w**d is your bound to get the munchies.
I smoke from time to time to try out my pipes for one, and sometimes just to get a different perspective of stuff. Hey it’s legal now.
Anyway back to the munchies.
You ever notice that when you got the munchies, almost anything will do. Half the time there’s not much to munch on that’s really tasty, so you go concocting recipes of what’s ever laying around.
Tonight I combined radishes and black olives. That is super tasty, and then I had a piece of gluten free bread with butter, tomatoes, cucumber and horseradish. I’m still hungry. Maybe I’ll try the corn tortillas with hummus. 😂🤣.
I saw this cute little CBD trailer at the fair and thinking about making something similar but from redwood and cedar. Then towing it to shows to sell my pipes.
My state fair entry. Hope to take a ribbon. If so, it’ll be incorporated into the box somehow. fingers 🤞🏼 🤞🏼 crossed.
Ebony Twins from a fine piece of ebony. These pipes rock. One is pure ebony, abd it’s brother has mammoth ivory carb and a tortoise shell acrylic mouthpiece.

Sometimes I get a really interesting job. Somebody gave me a piece of molding that needed two circular tops for side by side windows on an 1880s door. The first circle I turned had some blow outs on the corners when I cut them due to the biscuits being in the wrong place . That was corrected before turning 2nd circle.
Sold this little number at the art show yesterday. Was an ok show, but not quality art oriented enough Still good to experiment and maybe crowd just has to get used to me. Lots of people did like my work. So thats cool too. I’ll probably do it again, but be more prepared next time. I gotta get on board with credit card readers.🦎🦎🦎💚💚💚
Well someone is going to be happy to have this pipe. I sold it this weekend and photographed it on the table at the show.
Yeah, it was an interesting experience. Got a few more shows coming up.
Newest version. Still working on it (like forever, till I die 😂 or maybe, just maybe find a way to CA.🤣). I always wanted to live in CA. mostly because it would be the best place to sell my pipes. This one’s called “for god sakes”. Best to hear it with a blue tooth. Hah. ✌️
Ok, so why can I not post pictures with this reminder that I haven’t posted anything (on this page) in awhile?
It gives me the option for a live video, and to check in, but I don’t see anywhere to get my pics to post.
Newest pipe: The Bone Collector.
Briar, Ebony, Mammoth Ivory.
The MI pin can be used as a poker/cleaning tool.
This pipe is the bomb really. It’s hefty, well made, totally unique and different in so many ways, and should perform pretty darn good. Adorned with choice pieces of mammoth ivory. Would love to try it out. That meerschaum bowl would be a clean smoke, and eventually color. I’m really really tempted to try it out. I might be able to be persuaded 😁😂. It’s about a $5k pipe though. I know, ridiculous right?
But that’s what it is.
So finally back in my TP Pipe site. I don’t know how I got here. A lot of fiddeling around to get here once again. I’m trying to figure out why it’s so hard for me to get into this site.
It used to be really easy, as it would show up every day along with my regular (Tom Guelcher) profile along with my other company (The Turning Point Woodworks), but then one day it just disappeared.
It’s still around but just hard for me to administer it.
I must have done something wrong somewhere. Who knows?
