Now, this city has no shortage of restaurants. As is typical with popular places, it can be really hit or miss though.

Finding awesome eats is one of my superpowers. No really. My process is one part research, one part intuition, and a little bit of magic too.

๐ฌ Ask the locals (at your accommodation, your guide on a walking tour, etc.) where they like to eat. Not where they think you should go but where THEY go.
๐งญ Wander at least two blocks off the main tourist thoroughfare. The food is usually much better and cheaper!
๐ค Research! Read blogs and check out menus using Google Maps. Bookmark the places that look awesome so you can find them easily as youโre out and about!
๐ช๐ต๐ฎ๐ ๐๐ต๐ผ๐๐น๐ฑ ๐๐ผ๐ ๐ฒ๐ฎ๐ ๐ถ๐ป ๐๐๐ฏ๐ฟ๐ผ๐๐ป๐ถ๐ธ?
๐ ๐๐ณ๐ฆ๐ด๐ฉ ๐ง๐ณ๐ถ๐ช๐ต - you can find some good stuff at the Old Town Market square. The cherries are my favorite!
๐คค ๐๐ถ๐ณ๐ฆ๐ฌ - this is a Balkan staple! You can grab a walking around snack at Bosanฤica or Holy Burek.
๐ ๐๐ฆ๐ข๐ง๐ฐ๐ฐ๐ฅ - thereโs some incredible seafood in the city! Barba was on my list but we didnโt make it there. For a nicer dinner out, Segreto Pasta & Grill was delightful.
๐ฝ ๐๐ข๐ซ ๐๐ข๐ฉ๐ข๐ญ (pic #3) is great Bosnian food (the name is very confusing for that!), if youโre not going to make it across the border.
๐ฝ ๐๐ฏ๐ค๐ณ๐ฆ๐ฅ๐ช๐ฃ๐ญ๐ฆ ๐๐ฏ๐ฅ๐ช๐ข was a place Iโd heard multiple people mention and it was pretty good, if youโre looking for something a little different.

Dubrovnik is BY FAR the most expensive place Iโve visited in the Balkans, but still a fraction of what youโll pay in Western Europe, making it easy to travel the way I like without breaking the bank.

๐ ๐๐ค๐ค๐ฐ๐ฎ๐ฎ๐ฐ๐ฅ๐ข๐ต๐ช๐ฐ๐ฏ๐ด: $30 - $50 per night for an apartment in the hills above the Old Town.
๐ด ๐๐ฐ๐ฐ๐ฅ: $20 - $40 per person for a restaurant meal. $5 - $10 per person for burek street food or stuff from the market.
๐ ๐๐ช๐จ๐ฉ๐ต๐ด๐ฆ๐ฆ๐ช๐ฏ๐จ: $15 - $30 per day per person for things like the Old City Walls or the Cable Car. Everything else is cheaper.

๐ ๐๐ช๐จ๐ฉ๐ต๐ด๐ฆ๐ฆ๐ช๐ฏ๐จ: Check out the Dubrovnik City Card which bundles many popular attractions together for one price thatโs lower than paying for each individually.

๐ ๐๐ฐ๐ท๐ณ๐ช๐ซ๐ฆ๐ฏ๐ข๐ค ๐๐ฐ๐ณ๐ต๐ณ๐ฆ๐ด๐ด - itโs outside the Old Town but included with the Walls. Youโll find awesome views back to the city too.
๐ฐ ๐๐ฆ๐ค๐ต๐ฐ๐ณโ๐ด ๐๐ข๐ญ๐ข๐ค๐ฆ - full of interesting pieces from the cityโs history.

๐ค Take a trip over to Lokrum island for nature and gorgeous views. You can take a boat from the docks for about โฌ10.
๐ Visit one of the many beaches outside the city walls to soak up the sun.
๐ก Take the cable car to the top of the mountain for epic views of the city and sea below.

The old town, which is what most people come to see, is really small. You can wander through all the little alleys in just a couple of hours.

If you come from another country, youโll go through passport control at the border which is pretty quick and super easy! Everyone piles off the bus, lines up for passport control, walks across the border, and gets back on the bus.

Basically, every bus in the Balkans is run by a different company rather than a central bus line. makes it super easy to buy your tickets for anywhere in the Balkans.

When you get to the bus station all you have to do is match the logo on your ticket to the logo on the bus!

The route will be posted in the window. Sometimes your destination will be somewhere between the beginning and end point so look at all the stops.

โฑ Even if the distance is short, the drive will probably take a while since you have to go through the mountains.
๐ For the same reason, the roads are winding and have plenty of hairpin turns. Itโs an adventure!
๐ค Most roads are only two lanes and speed limits rarely exceed 60 MPH and are usually much lower.
๐คทโโ๏ธ For locals, turning on the flashers basically means you can park anywhere, including partially blocking a lane. Just watch for them!
