World's ever largest creature last spotted off the B.C. coast in July 2019, as their numbers are increasing now after a 1966 halt on hunting them. The blue whale, at upwards of 30 meters (100 feet) in length and weighing as much as 173 tons, is the largest creature on Earth and is also the largest animal to have ever existed on the planet, including the dinosaurs. It is also one of the loudest things in the world, with its calls being recorded at as high as 188 decibels, louder than a jet plane taking off.
