Marriages of longevity do not come without lots of effort on both parts. A local ministry, Retrouvaille of Jacksonville, has been helping couples to navigate the challenging waters of marriage in the Diocese since 1985. Retrouvaille is a peer ministry of couples helping couples. The proven program begins with a Retrouvaille Retreat Weekend, followed by post weekend presentations, and ongoing monthly enrichment meetings. The presenting couples share the challenges of their own marriages and the tools they have learned to improve communication and build a solid foundation for their marriage and family.

No couple is ever asked what brought them to the program as couples work together on guided exercises and share in complete privacy. The program provides hope, encouragement and practical tools to help couples strengthen their marriage. The retreat is designed to help couples reconnect with each other and learn how to communicate on a deeper level. Through the program, you'll learn how to express your feelings in a way your spouse can better understand, resolve conflict in healthier ways, and rebuild trust through forgiveness.

Retreat weekends are held three times annually at Marywood Retreat Center. Registration for the upcoming February 23-25, 2024, weekend is open now.

The registration fee for the retreat is $350 per couple and couples can make a voluntary donation to cover the program's total expenses. However, no one is ever denied the chance to heal their marriage due to financial challenges and assistance is available.

If you're interested in attending, you can register today at HelpOurMarriage.org. For more information, contact Retrouvaille of Jacksonville at 904-662-8604 or [email protected].

Bishop Kenny High School, Jacksonville’s first and oldest Catholic high school, broke ground on a new building, the $10.1 million Betty & Jack Demetree Family Athletic Training Center on Jan. 3. The building will house facilities and resources for the school’s student athletes. More than half of the student body participates in one or more of Bishop Kenny’s 23 athletic teams.

“Today is a historic day. It’s the result of years of planning, preparation and the work of so many dedicated volunteers. Today, we break ground for the construction of the Demetree Family Athletic Training Center. This important project will provide the athletic facilities, training and resources our students need and deserve. We have long provided a strong, rigorous academic environment for our students. It is now time to level-set our athletic facilities to that same standard,” said Principal Todd Orlando.

The Demetree Family Athletic Training Center will open during the 2024-25 academic year.
