On March 2nd of last year David Ferguson brought Will Oldham over to the house to write a song. Will is from Louisville and is better known as Bonnie Prince Billy. The song “My Home” and an accompanying video are out now on streaming outlets. I share lead vocals with Will and play mandolin on the track, which was produced by David Ferguson. I’ve been friends with Ferg since the late ‘90’s and met Will through him maybe 10 years ago. We’d never written together before, but I think it worked! Check it out.

It’s fun to jump into another band sometimes to see what might happen. Colorado’s Stillhouse Junkies invited me to do just that, and you can hear the result on their new single “West Virginia”. I tuned up my mandolin and banjo and shared lead vocals with Stillhouse songwriter Fred Kosak. My home state still tugs at my heart and it felt right singing this. - Tim.

Various Artists — Bluegrass Sings Paxton - Bluegrass Today Bluegrass Sings Paxton is simply a wonderful record, ably built on a decidedly credible concept.
RIP Steve Metcalf, aka “The Little King”, world champion party host, concert promoter, record company executive, and well known court jester of the greater Rutherfordton NC area. Steve was proprietor, or maybe that’s too formal a designation, of Green Acres Music Hall in his home area, and was patron to various hybrid bluegrass artists including New Grass Revival, Jerry Douglas/Edgar Meyer/Russ Barenberg, and Acoustic Syndicate, who recorded for his Little King Records imprint. He passed away this morning after a battle with cancer. In recent years he built a glass house from Jack Daniels bottles he’d help drain through the years. He was the musician’s friend, who kept things light and joyous, would always remind us after a night of celebration, to “ wake up strong”. I saw him last on April 16th at the Earl Scruggs Center in Shelby NC. He revealed that he had cancer, but he looked great. We parted with the wish to see each other again, but it was not to be. He made the world better, and will be long remembered.
- Tim
I loved Steve. He accepted me into his world the day I met him. He and his partner Rita came to hear Tim and I play at the Earl Scruggs Center this past April. It was so good to visit with him and catch up. He was jovial and happy, his color was good and he seemed to be doing well. He had been through a lot since we last saw him. It was so good to see him in the audience, listening hard and smiling. He was one of those guys that would do anything for his fellow humans, a giver. He will be missed.
