😷 UPDATE ON THE NEW ILLNESS IN ILLINOIS 😷

👉 The Unknown Respiratory Outbreak has been identified in the Quad Cities this week and is bringing this disease much closer to home.

❗️❗️ If your pet must board, groom, or be in close contact with other dogs, please call the office to see whether an update of any respiratory vaccines is indicated.

❗️❗️ If your pet can avoid boarding, grooming, and contact with other dogs during this time, that would be preferred. Separation is our best current defense.

🤔 What Do We Know Now about the Respiratory Disease? 👇
Cases may spread quickly in a communal environment. Respiratory diseases spread through direct dog-to-dog contact and indirectly via respiratory droplets from coughing, sneezing, or contamination of shared surfaces. Therefore, owners of dogs that go to day care, dog training classes, dog parks, shelters, and boarding/grooming facilities should be mindful of the potential for disease transmission in areas where dogs are in close proximity. In addition, owners should remain informed about any cases of respiratory disease in these locations.

See your veterinarian. If a dog is experiencing respiratory signs, including coughing, sneezing, ocular/nasal discharge, fever, and decreased appetite, we suggest you consult with a veterinarian. Keep your dog isolated from other dogs to minimize the spread, especially as the details of this disease continue to emerge.

Get your dog vaccinated. Owners should be sure their dogs are up to date with vaccinations, including those that protect against Bordetella, Adenovirus 2, Parainfluenza, and the influenza H3N2 vaccine. Please avoid bringing a dog into the community until the immune system has had time to build immunity (approximately two weeks after vaccination). If owners have immunocompromised dogs (e.g., puppies that are not fully vaccinated and senior dogs with other health problems), they should be cautious about bringing them around other dogs.

Consider getting diagnostics done early. Because we don’t yet know the cause of the disease, it might be a good idea to get diagnostic testing done when the symptoms first arise, before starting therapy. That’s because once treatment begins and the immune response kicks in, diagnostic tests (e.g., PCR, airway culture, viral isolation) may not be able to detect the virus or bacterium that caused the symptoms.

We want to share that after careful consideration, we have sold Pawsitively Happy Pet Services to wonderful new owners. The decision was extremely difficult for us and we made sure to give it a lot of thought! That is exactly how we know that it is the right one. Like most major decisions in life, it was a bitter-sweet one. We absolutely loved getting to know and love all of our customers while also learning to grow a small business! We will miss all of the endless kisses from the FurBabies, but know that they are going to loving, receptive pet loving people!

Mark and Jennifer Weller, the new owners, have spent the last 25 years of our married life educating area youth and raising our own children. We are excited to share our love for animals in this new adventure. We are so excited for the Vine Street Market at O'Fallon Station every Saturday, and we want to remind you to be conscious of some rules if you decide to bring your dog with you:

🔹Please pick up after your dog! There are FREE p**p bags in our shop and all around downtown. Don’t be a nasty, lazy, careless person. If we catch you not picking it up, we will publicly shame you.

🔹If your dog is hyper, unsocialized, sassy, reactive, or anxious, please leave them at home. The market is not an appropriate place to try and work on these behaviors. People do not appreciate being scared by a lunging, barking dog.

🔹Young puppies, unvaccinated dogs, and sick dogs do not belong at the market. This should be common sense, but here is a reminder.

🔹Please leave your dog at home if it is hot outside. Although we have water at the shop, dogs can quickly overheat and burn their pads on the pavement.

We really love that there is a dog-friendly market in our community, but a few people are dangerously close to ruining it for us. Dogs will be banned if things do not shape up and we will be sad if a few irresponsible people ruin it for the rest of us. Bringing your dog to events like this is a PRIVILEGE! Please treat it as such 💗

Clean up after your dog if you bring them to market. At the very least report the incident to market staff immediately. We have special cleaning products for dog messes and are happy to get those for you.

Market staff is located in the information trailer in the center of the market, in the POP Club tents and one of us is always walking around the market. We’re the folks with “MARKET STAFF” on the back of our shirts 😉
