When we started this program three years ago, I'm not sure anyone imagined it would grow so big so fast, and get so good so fast. In just its third year (albeit one that was washed out before it could really begin!) Badminton at Trinity has already become one of the biggest sports at the school. We are also one of the top, if not the top, private school teams in Minnesota. The credit for that belongs entirely to the athletes who came out be part of a brand new program, and the amount of work they put in to learning and growing in the fastest sport in the world.

With each passing year, everyone got another year of experience under their belt, and got more comfortable in and proficient at the game. With the numbers and talent on the team, the future is very bright.

Unfortunately, I will not be able to be part of that future as Head Coach. I will miss terribly sharing with all of you the game I fell in love with during college, but I will absolutely still be around - as a fan at home matches at the very least!

Whether you played one, two, or three years, thank you to the players for taking the plunge and being part of this team and this sport. We built something pretty special together, and I am proud to have been part of it and grateful to have had the chance to meet and work with each of you.

-Mr. Seipp

Friday's final full practice of the year was a surprise for the team...the first annual Trinity Badmilympics! Teams of 3-4 competed against each other to see who could hit the birdie the furthest, serve most accurately, and cover the entire court the fastest.

In Sharp Shooter (serving accuracy) event, Monica Nicklaus took home Gold, with Abby Maslow and Maria Lotti also medaling. In Quick Draw (shuffling to all corners of the court) the Gold went to Catherine Kieffer, with Catherine Stella and Grace Borchardt joining her on the podium. And in Long Shot (hitting the birdie the farthest), Maggie Kocon captured Gold, with silver to Cece Shriver and bronze to Josie Swanson.

The day finished up with a relay race around the gym balancing a birdie on your racket, won by "The Country That Must Not Be Named" (Catherine Kieffer, Maggie Kocon, Faith von Gohren), followed by Cro-Austria (Ava Larsen, Monica Nicklaus, Catherine Stella, Margaret Ryan) and Canada (Shannon Gallagher, Cassie Demlow, Kora O'Reilly).

The Overall Gold went to "The Country That Must Not Be Named" of Catherine Kieffer, Maggie Kocon and Faith von Gohren.

Congratulations all!!

Burnsville is one the oldest and most storied badminton programs in the state. They have been fielding teams for at least 24 years, and won the first four state championships. Last year when Trinity visited the Blaze, only Bekah Bittner and Maria Kisch at First Doubles were able to win a game. Only 3 of the other 14 games played saw the Tri Hawks even get to double digits.

Although the final score was still 0-7 this year, it was a noticeably closer affair in the Tri Hawks second year of play. This year 6 of the 7 Varsity matches saw Trinity get to double digits on their Burnsville opponent. Catherine Kieffer at Second Singles lost 15-21, 17-21 in a close affair, and Grace Borchardt at Fourth Singles was even tighter at 18-21, 18-21. JV Doubles 1 and 2 (Monica Nicklaus/Annika Swanson and Cecilia Shriver/Catherine Stella) both took a game off Burnsville and pushed the Blaze to 3 games.

The gap has narrowed.

The Trip Hawks resumed play after Easter Break by flipping their second script of the year. This time it was Minneapolis Roosevelt, who last year thumped Trinity. This year, the Tri Hawks trounced the Teddies 6-1, with only 2 of the 7 Varsity matches even going to a third game. JV also won, 4-3. On the strength of this win, Trinity moved up to #14 in the state poll, the highest ever for the program!

A little less than a year ago, the Hmong Academy Warriors dealt the Tri Hawks a harsh lesson, downing Trinity 5-2 in its own gym. This year, the rematch became the first instance of the Tri Hawks flipping the script...Trinity defeated the higher seeded Warriors 5-2 to push our overall record to 5-3 on the season! Hmong Academy took #1 singles and #1 doubles, the Tri Hawks swept the rest of the Varsity matches. The JV lost a nail biter, 3-4, with the match coming down the 3rd game at 1st singles to determine the winner.

14/04/2019

In our first visit to the beautiful Edison gym, the Tri Hawks won at both Varsity (7-0) and JV (6-1) levels. Not a single match went more than 2 games, 12 of the 28 games Edison was held to single digits!

14/04/2019

It is a sign of how far the Tri Hawks have come, that against top ten team Kennedy it was Trinity that won four of the first seven games. Kennedy would storm back to sweep Varsity 7-0, but just pushing them to four games in a majority of the matches is a big step. JV beat Kennedy decisively, 5-2 over the Eagles with 4 of the 5 wins coming in 2 straight games!

14/04/2019

The Tri Hawks dominated Hiawatha Collegiate in their first visit to Trinity, with Varsity putting up a 6-1 tally and JV shutting Hiawatha out 7-0. None of the 13 matches the Tri Hawks won went more than 2 games!

Last year, the trip to Math & Science Academy ended in a 6-1 drubbing. This year, Varsity played them tough in falling 3-4, with 3 matches going to 3 games and the Tri Hawks winning 3/4 singles matches. JV also lost 3-4, with 4 matches going 4.

The Tri Hawks ran into a buzz saw in their second match of the season, away at Top Ten foe Highland Park. Trinity did not win a game, with Monica Groppel at JV Singles 3 (16 points) and Margaret Ryan at Varsity Singles 4 (15 points) leading the six games where the Tri Hawks broke into double digits.

20/03/2019

In the first meet of 2019, the Tri Hawks came out storming. Varsity beat Edison 7-0, only dropping one game. JV "A" also won handily, 6-1. And JV "B" went 3-3 against the visiting Tomcats.
