Welp, like everything else in this mess of a year, I'm back. At least back to sporadically posting again. So I do apologize for not posting for the few who read my "ramblings", but I shall try to make further efforts to dispense then to watchful eyes.

Again, thank you.

A whopping three articles today, all of which tackle controversial topics over the last few months. Again, these are my opinions, take them as that, and if you wish today, please do so in a respectful manner.

My thoughts on the recent season of "Star Trek Discovery". I'll go into more detail later on my criticisms, especially canonical and thematic ones. However, again, I don't hate the show, disappointed is more appropriate. If we were to compare this to the beauty that is "Star Trek The Next Generation", while the fandom was skeptical at first (just like Discovery), it more than exceeded expectations. It took everything we loved already about the franchise and made it grander. "Discovery" one the other hand, it feels like the writers cared cheap thrills and action over excellent story telling.

I'll be posting some thoughts on the recent season of "Star Trek Discovery" this week. My views on it are mixed to say the least. By comparison to "The Orville", it feels mostly like dark mess with an underwhelming plot, and characters.

Also, good news, I posted while ago that I post some short stories I'm working on. I have managed to recover files from aged ThinkPad 755cx (which is now back up and running), and will hopefully start posting those in the coming weeks.

The article I wrote last year during the controversial hearings for Judge Kavanaugh. The point of my article isn't to support Justice Kavanaugh, but to point out the absurdity vile hatred that has infected our politics. Also not say the accusations against him shouldn't have been looked into, however the way they were viewed was full of so much partisan vitriol that it clouded the hearings like a thick layer of smog.

I'll be honest, I don't think 2019 will be much better in terms of our political temperament. Since my first brush with politics back in 2004, my observation is that it's only gotten worse and worse. I still have hope though.

I wish a happy birthday to the Professor, J.R.R. Tolkien! One of the most prolific writers of our time!

I want to wish you all a belated Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! My New Years resolution should be an obvious one, do a better job at maintaining the blog! 2018 has been a chaotic year; dealing trials and tribulations of a fledging YouTube channel, work, and my many story projects. I'm going to work through the backlog of incomplete posts, and I have some new stuff in the works. Thank, and have a Happy New Year!

Nothing Defines the 2010's 11/12/2018

The video linked below from "Knowledge Hub" is an interesting discussion on the decades and what defines them. It seems as if the 20th Century is almost divided into cultural chunks based up decades, while past centuries seem to almost have singular definition. Also the concept of Nostalgia, for better or worse, seems to have an overwhelming effect on defining our own time.

From my perspective, the 2010s are defined by volatile politics, rampant nostalgia (perhaps as an escape), and rapid trends of social media (specifically memes). It's hard to even to assign a singular type of person to this decade as there are too many variables to consider, and maybe that's not bad, perhaps avoiding the "pigeon hole" people of lived through a particular time get thrown into.

It's interesting to think about how future historians will look back at this time, it's definitely not a time that will be lost to the pages of history. Will people look favorably on this time, perhaps nostalgically even? Someone years from now might be able to define this era, but for the rest of us, it will just be the time we lived in.

A couple of Updates: First, most of my time has been filled by story writing and hopefully soon I will be putting out a sample of that in the form of a couple short stories. One of those I trying to cover off an old ThinkPad from 1995 that decided to die on me in spectacular fashion. Always save & aways back up!
Second, I haven't posted much in the theater of politics due to the current amount of heat in that arena. When I write about politics I try my best to detach my emotions and craft an opinion based on logic, as well as my own political leanings. I want people to think and a look at a situation with an open mind. I admit I have a more conservative / libertarian bent to my opinions and thus not everyone is going to agree with what I have to say. But I also in turn have no intention insulting anyone whose opinions I disagree with. Fear mongering and put-downs, I will do my best to steer clear of in my opinions.

Some thoughts on the current issue with the Russia summit.

It's hard at this point to discuss politics in any meaningful manor. It is frustrating, on one hand it is important to have discussion, but on the other hand it should't come with a social cost attached it it. Obviously if you preach a hate filled message you reap what you sow; however simply having an opposing view should give you a sense of fear in trying to talk about it.

28/06/2018

With regards to the current political tensions, I want to reiterate that I will not tolerate ANY uncivil discussion on this page, from the left or right. That includes insults, derogatory words, attacks on one's spiritual or religious beliefs, attacks on one's life choices, and attacks on one's background. Keep it civil and use decorum or your comments will be deleted without warning.

26/06/2018

It's hard to comprehend the amount vitriol and hatred in American politics today. The fact that an elected representative is calling for the harassment of White House staff is beyond reprehensible. Congress has the ability to pass laws and override the the decisions of the President. We elect these people to represent us, to make decisions on our behalf. We've elected them to a job and they are neglecting it.

20/06/2018

Further more on the point I made earlier, Respect is not is simply "being nice to someone" it's about treating people fairly. It's about considering a person's opinion without contempt and appreciating the hard work they put forward. To often in our modern world do we look away and ignore those work hard and help others and idolize those who do nothing. We live in a century that is so demeaning and crass that it shouldn't surprise anyone in the amount of negativity we have today.

20/06/2018

Listening is a key part of any discussion, and seeing an issue from another point of view is critical in resolving an argument. If there is anything missing in the 21st Century it's this, a general sense of politeness and decorum. We should be mentally evolved at this point to have these elements in our minds when discussing even the most remotely controversial of issues.

To continue on that point, I will not tolerate any profanity, rudeness, or disrespect to ANYONE on this page. If you engage in this kind of discussion, your posts will be promptly deleted.

I have to apologize again that I haven't posted in around a month, but life is often a chaotic mess where your doing 5 things at once. In short, I haven't forgotten and I will posting a new article this week about something!

The Mental Rambler 28/03/2018

I known it's been a while since I posted something, but here it is, the first post of 2018! In this article, we are talking about YouTube's recent policy changes. I plan to go into greater detail on later on what I perceive as the downfall of YouTube, so in some respect consider this an introduction.

Thank you for reading and always keep your mind open!
