PROJECT: Logo Design

CLIENT: Palm Integrative Coaching, LLC

A few months ago I was approached by my business coach, Chuck Palm, about designing a logo. He was at a decision point in expanding his business and wanted a new brand to represent those changes.

Little did either of us know the changes that were to come.

I showed Chuck a number of logo mock ups using Palm Integrative Coaching as the company name, using symbols like two ropes knotted together, amorphous whirling, dynamic shapes, a pushpin.

Truth be told, I was not keen on the somewhat dull “Palm Integrative Coaching” so I made a few logo designs suggesting making the company name a verb.

This generated further thought and discussion.

Ultimately, Chuck changed the name of his coaching business to “Mastermind Coaching”. He is well into the process of developing his coaching business model to incorporate educational, assessment and training services, in addition to the one-on-one excellent coaching for which he is in demand.

I accepted a unique artistic challenge recently.

It involved painting large flowers on the exterior walls of a local Tucson nursery/garden center. The daisy-like flower mimics the garden center’s logo.

HERE'S HOW I DID IT...

1. Using my graphics programs, I created an outline of the flower 72” wide and divided it into letter-sized sheets.

2. Then I printed each sheet and taped them together: seventy-two pieces of paper in all!

3. I transferred the outline to sheets of cardboard and cut out a template. (see me in action on this Instagram Reel https://www.instagram.com/reel/Cgm2ESeDmDN/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link

4. Then, using the template pieces, I traced the flowers onto the buildings.

5. And finally the fun part, coloring between the lines! (Another IG Reel https://www.instagram.com/reel/Cg9vfqqjf-C/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link

I enjoy this type of “large graphic work on BIG walls”!
First of all, I have a paintbrush in my hand, and I am outside….in the sunshine…in the rain (monsoon season here in Tucson). And I’m getting some good exercise going up and down the ladders (some flowers were 16 feet up).

Tucson peeps, if you get a chance to drive by Harlow’s Garden Center on Pima near Craycroft, glance over and see five giant flowers beaming back at you!

If you know of a local business that could benefit from my creativity and skill, either inside or outside, please connect us with a warm email introduction.

OVERLAPPING WORLDS: Design and Fine Art

I was editing a photograph for a print brochure I was designing when suddenly some quirkiness took over the program and the photo was broken into rectangles and the colors were altered.

I love when random stuff happens.

After climbing back onto my chair, I thought, "Wow. That is really cool...I don't know how it happened, but that is a really sweet way to start a painting!"

2of4: two paintings that use the glitch as a base
3of4 and 4of4: individual paintings 24" x 30"

What do you think?

Has your business pivoted to something new and your logo no longer represents who you are and what you do?

Let's talk. I've been designing logos for various organizations and businesses for over 35 years.

Here's a sampling.

This is the second custom 'Thumbprint' I've created (see the unveiling video in an earlier post for the first 'Thumbprint').

THE STORY: A beloved mentor is moving on to a different and new position. The 'mentees' each wrote a personal message of gratitude and I incorporated them into the form of this thumbprint graphic print, with frame.

The print is 24"h X 18"w plus matting and frame (~29"h x ~23").

Who in your life do you want to honor in this way? Contact me ([email protected]) and let's see what we can put together.

Your custom message made into a Thumbprint poster!

MOTHER EARTH GRAPHIC NOVEL

I have amazingly creative people in my life.

Recently, Martha Boose and Ellen Galbreath approached me with a story they wanted turned into a book. Martha received the narrative during a meditation. She asked Ellen to illustrate the story with her signature “cut-out illustrations”.

You can see I was handed the black and white text pages and the illustrations they accompanied. My job was to design the book and get it ready for printing/publishing.

After scanning into Photoshop, I used elements and colors from the cut-outs to tie the text pages to their illustrations…and took a creative approach to presenting the text, using color, size and ghosting for emphasis, clarity and visual cohesion.

The resulting graphic novel is a colorful, fun read for kids of all ages. The author’s hope is to instill in the upcoming generation respect and love for one another and Mother Earth.

Who do you know that is writing a children’s book and wants it put together in a creative way? Please send them my way.

Todd's got it goin' on! Smart. Professional. Knowledgeable. Experienced. And kind of funny, too.

To save money, lots of new business owners try to manage their books on their own—but this is a huge mistake. Managing cash flow is too time consuming, complex, and critical to your company’s survival for you to fit it in with your other responsibilities. Indeed, the very first person you hire should be a professional bookkeeper/financial manager

Effective cash-flow management is the foundation upon which all of your company’s financial and tax strategies are built, and it needs to be done properly from the very beginning. To this end, even if you’ve yet to earn any revenue, you should consider paying for a financial manager out of your own pocket.

If you need support in finding the right financial manager, we can refer you to the professionals in our area we trust most.

My neighbor is the Program Director at Children's Advocacy Center of Southern Arizona. She asked if I would be interested in a creative project: she had seen my paintings, but hadn't known I also am a designer.

She asked if I could "somehow" make the currently dreary teen waiting area more inviting and comfortable.

I start painting next week.

Who do you know that needs a lobby or office facelift?
