What won't we do for Art? The list is pretty short.

After 27 years in business, we really LOVE what we do, and our operations team works hard to make sure it's done impeccably. Even when the weather is hot, and the art is heavy, they get down and dirty to get the job done with style and grace.

Stop by our Palm Desert gallery to experience this monumental Indiana AMOR sculpture.

Impressionism is one of our specialties.

We are delighted with these works on paper by Alfred Sisley and Camille Pissarro on display in our Palm Desert, CA gallery.

These pastel drawings are ripe with impressionist preoccupations. The medium beautifully captures the play of light across bountiful landscapes occupied by stoic workers diligently engaged in their labor.

Stop by for a closer look. Can't get there physically, click the link and immerse yourself in our impressive history with Impressionist artworks. https://bit.ly/3d9MZDL

"Art is a creation of a higher order than a copy of nature which is governed by chance…" – Paul Signac 💬

Paul Signac's outstanding contribution to modern art is often underestimated. In the years following Seurat's early death in 1891, Signac carried Neo-Impressionist principles forward to influence painters such as Theo van Rysellbergh and Henri Cross. Soon thereafter, he laid the groundwork for the Fauves and Matisse, Braque and Derain. Signac died in Paris in 1935, but his oeuvre stands as a pillar of modern art, his paintings and watercolors all but de rigueur for museums and institution collections throughout the world.

Happy St. George's Day! Feliç Diada de Sant Jordi! 🐉

St. George is the patron saint of many countries including England and Catalonia. The tale of St. George has inspired generations of artists including Salvador Dalí. Dalí was born in Figueres in Catalonia and this engaging work is a Surreal take on the famous duel between St. George and the Dragon.

"The figure is nothing unless you twist it around like a strange miracle." – Willem de Kooning 🖌️

Today is Willem de Kooning's birthday. Willem de Kooning is one of the most celebrated American artists, not least for his pioneering work developing the Abstract Expressionist movement.

Emerging from the destruction of World War II, the loosely associated movement worked through the trauma of the past and the anxiety of a new present. Along with Jackson Po***ck, De Kooning helped to cultivate the action painting branch in which artists appeared to attack the canvas with bold and dynamic brushwork.

"A picture is in the same way a universe – it holds its own life and mirrors a mind and a soul. Within all these laws seem to be a directing will and we are also directed by this will – this will is the urge to create – it is a cosmic will that determines all creation." – Hans Hofmann 💬

Hofmann is one of the most important artists and teachers of the 20th century. His influence in his paintings and in his lessons continue to this day. No artist bridged the gap between European Modernism and American Abstract Expressionism the same way Hans Hofmann did.

The accuracy and detail it captured alleviated painters from the burden of realism, affording them new levels of creative experimentation. "Painting is an essential function of human life. Wherever human beings live, painting has existed and exists. Painting is a language, as with words." – Diego Rivera 🇲🇽

In Diego Rivera's portrait of Enriqueta Dávila, the artist asserts a Mexicanidad, a quality of Mexican-ness, in the work along with his strong feelings towards the sitter. Moreover, this painting is unique amongst his portraiture in its use of symbolism, giving us a strong if opaque picture of the relationship between artist and sitter.

A Sérgio de Camargo sculptural relief is now on view at our Palm Desert, CA gallery 🇧🇷
This piece is a great example of the monochromatic white sculptures for which the Brazilian artist is best known. Taught by Lucio Fontana in Buenos Aires, and Constantin Brancusi and Jean Arp in Paris, he synthesized the approaches and aesthetics of Constructivism, Spatialism, and Minimalism.

His work is often associated with the Neo-Concrete movement that emerged in Brazil in the late 1950s and early 1960s. This movement was characterized by a rejection of traditional artistic mediums and materials in favor of non-traditional materials such as found objects and industrial materials. Neo-Concrete artists also prioritized viewer participation and sought to engage the viewer in the creative process.

American artist and designer Harry Bertoia was born 🥳

Harry Bertoia's Willow sculpture resonates as an expression of grace and delicacy; qualities that bely the usual associations we have with the intrinsic properties of the alloy of which it is made. This suspended version – the rare version of Willow - seems to have a self-aware presence; one that delights in that contrast of properties. Yet it invites nothing more than existential pleasure in the viewing of it.

Think of Willow as a boldly articulated version of Calder if the latter master had a more organic or corporeal evocation in mind. Suspended, it commands its area yet respects its spatial relationship to its surround. Light, form, space – these are conceptual tools of the sculptor. But who else would think to use reflective material more readily associated with inflexibility and tensor strength to create a bouquet of cascading strands of stainless steel, suspended in space, flora-like and so gracefully beautiful?

Horses really are larger than life, symbols of wildness and strength. Few creatures have had such a profound impact on human progress; carrying humanity on their backs throughout the centuries, enhancing our capabilities and relieving our hefty burdens.

The horse, for Deborah Butterfield, is a much a symbol of humanity as it is of nature. Her early horses served as self-portraits; focusing on the mare as subject, she sought to imbue the symbol of the horse with a calm and powerful feminine energy.

Butterfield's works have since evolved into examinations of place and process. Highlighting the relationships between nature and creature, wildness and discipline, presence and absence. Her horses exist as portraits of the landscapes from which her materials are collected, and as evidence of her particularity within them.
