Nearly 500 members of the are graduating from our award-winning program. Elgin High School’s Samantha Elizalde is one of them. “Being in the program made me feel less alone, knowing that I wasn't the only first-generation Hispanic child,” she says, crediting her classmates and teachers for where she is today - heading to the University of Chicago to major in psychology with a neuroscience focus. “Without them, I wouldn’t have been able to believe in myself, as they were the first ones to believe in me.” Samantha plans to create a career in mental health, and she says being bilingual and biliterate will help her give back to more people.
6th graders showing off their final projects during their "Natural Disasters Fair" in the courtyard. Thankfully, the weather wasn't a disaster and the students were able to display their findings, including erupting volcanoes!
Our Food Service YAC group (Youth Action Council) has met throughout the year to learn about good nutrition and make yummy recipies. Last week they held their end of the year awards. Thanks to Karen Roman and Constantina Valle De Munoz for the organizing and programming, and to Ms. Cina for helping out. :)
We are posting this GoFund Me as this tragic event occurred to one of our former Coleman student's family, just blocks away from the school. We encourage you to consider donating.
