A customer sent us this link this morning. I'm glad to know our customers appreciate and understand how crucial it is to know where our food comes from.
JBS Tolleson is one of the world's largest meat packing companies and have had to recall beef from Walmart and Kroger already this year. Cargill also recalled beef in September of this year and are in the midst of a lawsuit with a Tennessee family alleging their daughter was hospitalized and developed hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS) after eating the contaminated ground beef purchased from a Publix Supermarket.
To us farm to table is more than just a phrase. We look at our customers like they are on our farm and eating at our table.

Itโs , so weโll just leave this here ๐คค
Today marks a very special day for the Barker Beef family! Weโre celebrating the birthday of Joanne!
Sheโs the call we make when we need an extra hand, the person who drops what sheโs doing to help transport us around the farm, and the chef who always delivers lunch and snacks when we donโt have time to stop. Sheโs the glue that holds us all together.
We are all so very thankful for everything she does and hope she has a wonderful birthday today ๐๐
The newest member of our herd ๐ฎ๐ฎ
Hello from the frozen tundra of Barkers Mill, Kentucky! I hope this post finds you warm and cozy in your home on such an awful winter day. This year my hope is to be far more active on social media and on our website. I hope to give people a view in to our farm and what my family did to get us to where we are and what we are doing for our farm, our family, and our future. I want to try and give an explanation of what our day to day work consists of and how that effects our cows and our beef.
It certainly has been one wild winter so far. The past few days have brought quite a bit of snow obviously and a lot of cold weather. These first pictures are showing the results of this weather on our ponds and water sources for the cows. Even in the winter, with it being -7 with the windchill, 1500lb cows still drink about 15 gallons of water a day! This cold weather causes the ponds to freeze on top making it impossible for the cows to access the water below the ice. Every morning In the winter as we are checking the cows and making sure everyone is okay, we cut ice. It typically takes a pretty cold string of days to get ice to form but it can get thick enough to hold a cow up on it. So we always have an axe with us in our Kubota and we go and cut large rectangles up next to the bank so that the cows easily can walk up and quench their thirst without trying to walk on the ice.
The picture of the baby calf is a picture of our very first calf of 2018. We typically have our first calves around the last of January until around April. So as time passes I will continue to post pictures of our herd and the new calves that come.
Please feel free to ask any questions you might have and let me know if there are any topics you might want to be discussed. Now itโs back to the arctic to do some more work! Thank you for your support and God Bless.
