How I found my Bliss

My name is Valerie Vander Linden and I have been the proud owner of Bliss Boutique since 2017. Many people always ask how I became an owner of a boutique at 22 years old, and the story I tell them is...
It all began when I was on a mission to find an internship going into the summer of my Junior year in college. I lived in Omaha, but attended Iowa State University, so for the summer while I was home I wanted to focus on working for a small business. My neighbors had mentioned to me that Bliss would be a store to check out for an internship opportunity. I walked into Bliss the next day, met the owners, asked about an internship, and 2 weeks later I had accepted to be their first intern. Bliss quickly became so much more than just an internship to me. I fell in love with the customers, and my bosses, and was able to learn more than I ever imagined. After working through the summer I continued to work at Bliss on and off during holiday breaks the next school year. The next summer I wanted to experience the corporate life in the retail industry and had the opportunity to work for a corporation in Omaha. However, I continued to work for Bliss during the weekends. After that summer I realized how much I enjoyed working with customers and knowing them personally more than I ever enjoyed sitting behind a computer screen.
Later that summer the owners of Bliss surprisingly approached me and told me they were looking to sell the store and knew that I had always wanted to own my own boutique. After that conversation I sat down with my parents and asked them if this would be of interest to them. As I headed back to school for my Senior year we continued talking about buying Bliss and as my graduation date neared so did the signing over of the business. December came and I graduated with an Apparel Merchandising and Design degree with a minor in Entrepreneurial Studies and was about to begin the scariest and most exciting journey of my life starting January 31st.
