Be honest.
How often do you clean your fi****ms?
After a day at the range?
After a few hundred, or few thousand rounds have been
fired?
Once a month, year?
Never?
There is multiple opinions as to how often fi****ms should be cleaned.
In a new GCA Blog Article, Earl Roberts (Owner-Operator and Chief Instructor of Mobile Marksmanship LLC) recommends five different levels of gun cleaning depending on the situation.

Here's a great Gunsmithing Tip!
Did you know that in a pinch, both Dawn Dish soap AND Simple Green can be used as solvents for cleaning your fi****ms?
Its true!
If you're trying to clear out black powder residue, or particulates left behind after shooting corrosive ammo, add some Dawn Dish soap to warm or hot water, and soak your parts in the solution for about 10 minutes or so.
Take the firearm/parts out of the solution and scrub and clean as usual.
Make sure to rinse and dry your firearm after you're all done, apply lubricant where needed, as well as a protectant coat on all metal parts.
Read more about how to use various solvents to clean on the GCA Blog Post titled "10 Solvents You Should Know About" by Earl Roberts at the following link.

Gunsmithing Tip!
This one is an oldie but a goodie.
Did you know that improper storage of oily or solvent soaked rags can lead to spontaneous combustion, and costly and dangerous workshop fires? Our very own Robert Dunn suggests the proper use of an Oil Waste Can such as the classic Eagle Model No. 910-FL shown here for safely storing your rags.
Workshop fires can have many causes. Its best to be proactive and do everything you can to prevent them, rather than be reactive and deal with their aftermath.
Tips like this one can be found on the GCA blog, the forums, and Guntech, the official GCA magazine. This tip came from Guntech Issue #174 from an article titled "Gunsmithing and Fi****ms Safety.. A Reminder", written by Robert Dunn.
It can be read at the following link.
