Last Saturday, we hosted a volunteer scholarship reception awarding 13 scholarships to local students studying health care when they head off to college.

Bruce Archambeault, whose late wife, Sue, was a dedicated hospital volunteer, led the effort to bolster fundraising for the scholarship program. The volunteers named a scholarship in Sue’s memory and invited Bruce yearly to select the recipient.

Congratulations to all our scholarship recipients and dedicated volunteer staff for making this reception possible!

Today is 🩸 and we're raising awareness about the need for blood donors. Donated blood helps patients with various medical issues and can be lifesaving.

Twelve years into her career, Erin Cox found her calling as a home hospice nurse at UNC Health Johnston. From checking vitals to ordering medicines, her days are busy but rewarding. Erin enjoys her role because she builds trusting relationships with patients such as Donna Williams of Benson, the first patient she admitted into hospice care.

Logan Mott claimed stroke elite for her urgency and expertise handling a stroke patient on May 5. Logan works in our emergency department, and she was also the lucky nurse who participated in the first pitch at the Mudcats game during our partnership for National Hospital Week. At their recent awards dinner, graduates of the Campbell University School of Osteopathic Medicine recognized Dr. Andrew Lloyd of UNC Health Johnston as Preceptor of the Year for his dedication to excellence in education. He was unable to attend the event, but medical education specialist Renee Lett and chief medical officer Dr. Rodney McCaskill, both of UNC Health Johnston, presented the award to him.

We are excited to announce our Ambassador of the Month, Tamara Carver!
Carver, a patient accounts assistant manager, has been with UNC Health Johnston since 2018. CEO Tom Williams praises her determination, hard work and knowledge. “She studies and reviews insurance denials to determine a direction that’s most beneficial to the organization,” Williams said. What Carver enjoys the most about her job is the people she works with. “They’re self-starters and easy to get along with. They make it fun to come to work,” she says. When she is not at work, she enjoys playing video games and spending time with her two daughters.

If you are local this weekend, take a trip to the JoCo Flags For Heroes display at our Clayton hospital, where 300 flags pay tribute to our country's heroes. You can also find tribute flags along the walking path in front of the Smithfield hospital.
