Lions park this beautiful afternoon was the location of a BRAZEN thief. Someone broke at lease three windows of parked cars and stole diaper bags, purses and one gun. All while our law abiding citizens were enjoying the weather near by. One vehicle was parked by the amphitheater and two by the children’s village. If anyone recalls seeing anyone suspicious or know who this person (people) are contact Officer Baca 633-6617 ref 18-14276 or Officer Peterson 633-6635 ref 18-14279

Officer Involved Shooting in the 3800 Block of East 15th Street (UPDATE)

In an effort to ensure complete transparency and accountability to the citizens of Casper, the Casper Police Department has a long history of partnering with the Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation in all officer involved incidents resulting in death or great bodily injury.

The following steps are generally taken when dealing with an officer involved shooting.
• The on-duty Supervisor is notified and responds to the scene of the shooting.
• Command Staff and the Chief of Police are notified.
• The Chief of Police makes a formal request to the Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) and the investigation is turned over to DCI.
• Involved Officer(s) are transported by a Supervisor or another Officer to the Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation.
- Evidence related to the event, such as clothing, weapons, ammunition and magazines are collected by Investigators with DCI.
- Officer(s) provide a brief overview about the events surrounding the shooting to the DCI Investigators.
- Officer(s) are given a drug test.
- Follow-up interviews with the involved Officers are scheduled and conducted by DCI Investigators.
• In compliance with City of Casper and Casper Police Department Policies, the Officer(s) are transported from DCI by a Supervisor to have a City of Casper drug test.
• Consistent with Casper Police Department Policies, involved Officers are placed on Administrative Leave, remaining on Administrative Leave until released by the Chief of Police pending the completion of internal investigations and evaluations of the incident and the officers involved.
• DCI completes an investigation into the event and the circumstances leading up to the event.
• The investigation is presented to the District Attorney’s Office for the purpose of determining the lawfulness of the incident.

The Casper Police Department is committed to maintaining transparent public safety operations. To this end, we gratefully acknowledge the role of the Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigations in assisting the Casper Police Department with such complex investigations. In so doing, the Casper Police Department relinquishes the investigatory responsibilities to DCI as well as the decision as to what information may or may not be released without jeopardizing the ongoing investigation. As such, questions concerning the incident and the investigation should be directed to DCI.

The Casper Police Department asks for your patience and understanding as we complete this thorough and critical process.

Officer Involved Shooting in the 3800 Block of East 15th Street

On February 25, 2018, at approximately 11:36 p.m., two Casper Police Department Officers responded to a threatening call at the Loaf n Jug located at 1510 Centennial Court, Casper, Wyoming. The clerk had called saying that a male subject had come into the store wielding a sword and had threatened her and physically assaulted her. The male subject had then left the place of business. The female clerk did not receive any injuries requiring immediate medical attention.

At approximately 11:39 p.m., just two tenths of a mile from the Loaf and Jug, Officers confronted a male subject wielding a sword in the 3800 block of East 15th Street. During that contact, two Casper Police Department Officers fired their service weapons at the male subject. The Officers subsequently rendered medical attention to the male subject, who succumbed to his injuries and died at the scene.

The Officer Involved Shooting investigation has been turned over to the Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI). The two Casper Police Department Officers have been placed on Administrative Leave pending the investigation. Both Officers are uninjured. The Casper Police Department is fully cooperating with DCI during the investigation and is grateful for DCI’s assistance.

The Casper Police Department will release the Officers’ names involved at a later time.
