On Monday, June 17, 2024, Ruidoso and its neighboring areas were plunged into a nightmare as the South Fork Fire and the Salt Fire swept through with terrifying speed and unpredictability. The entire Village of Ruidoso was soon under mandatory evacuation orders. Amid this chaos, our Village of Ruidoso Fire Fighters sprang into action, leaving their own homes and families behind without any means of communication. Their mission: to protect our village and help with evacuations.
In the midst of their heroic efforts, four of these brave firefighters lost everything. They had no time to gather personal belongings or any way to ensure their families' safety. Their homes are gone, and they continue to fight the fire, living out of the fire stations with nowhere else to go and without even a change of clothes.
These men embody the spirit of our community with their resilience and courage. Despite their personal losses, they remain on the front lines, determined to save what they can. The devastation caused by these fires is immense, with an estimated 1,500 structures lost, and among those affected are our brave firefighters who continue to serve despite their own losses.
We are asking for your support to help these heroes and their families. Your donations will provide them with essential supplies and a measure of comfort during this incredibly challenging time. Any contribution, no matter how small, will make a significant difference and show our deep gratitude for their selfless service. Thank you for standing with our everyday heroes who continue to protect our village.

Today, we pause to honor and remember the brave men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation. Memorial Day is not just a day off from work or a time for barbecues; it is a solemn reminder of the cost of freedom and the valor of those who fought to protect it.
As we gather with family and friends, let us take a moment to reflect on the courage and dedication of our fallen heroes. Their legacy lives on in the freedoms we enjoy every day. Whether visiting a memorial, participating in a moment of silence, or sharing stories of those who served, let’s ensure their sacrifices are never forgotten.
To all our veterans and their families, we extend our deepest gratitude. Your sacrifices have shaped our history and secured our future.
Today and always, we remember.

Santa Fe Fire Department was called out to a structure fire this morning.
Ladder 7, Engine 3, Engine 8, Rescue 3, Medic 6, Medic 7 Battalion 1 and Battalion 2 responded to the 3300 block of Cerrillos Rd. for what was reported as a fully involved structure. Crews arrived on scene and quickly knocked down the flames, keeping the fire from spreading into the structure and causing more damage. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Great job to everyone that responded!!
Yesterday Ladder 7, Medic 6 and BC 1 responded to a roll over at the intersection of Rodeo Rd and Richards Ave. No one was injured in this accident. As the winter storm continues, please remember to drive safely, slowly and stay alert.
Ladder 7, Rescue 3, Medic 6 and Medic 2 responded to a child locked inside of a vehicle. Crews worked quickly using their technical skills to safely extricate the child. The child was cleared my the medic units and reunited with her family. Strong work Santa Fe Fire Department
