Theft, destruction of historic church bell upsets residents of small Missouri town
Residents of Gunn City, Missouri, were dismayed when a historic church bell, in place since 1882, was stolen and destroyed. Pastor Steve Winnie reported the theft after the bell vanished, eventually leading to an arrest and felony charges against a suspect, Christopher Longacre. The bell, with an estimated scrap value of $4,800, held immense sentimental and historical significance for the community, surviving a fire in the 1920s. Despite the loss, the congregation remains resilient, with Pastor Winnie searching for a replacement. He hopes that something positive may arise from the incident, potentially leading the perpetrator to a better path and promoting goodwill in the community.
