- In 1999 Warren Johnson dominated to win his 5th NHRA Pro Stock Championship. WJ claimed almost every #1 qualifier, track and national records, and many events wins, including this victory at the U.S. Nationals in his RJ Race Cars built Pro Stock Pontiac Firebird.

"They called this the 'Wonder Car' last year, and we're still wondering why it works so well," noted the Professor as he savored his sixth Indy victory.

INDIANAPOLIS - Warren Johnson, the "Professor of Pro Stock," defeated
his pupil, former crew chief Greg Anderson, in the final round to win his
sixth career U.S. Nationals title and score his sixth victory of the
season. W.J. continued the Johnsons' domination of drag racing's biggest
race, extending the family's string of U.S. Nationals final-round
appearances to eight straight years.

"Whether you win Indy once or six times, every one is special,"
said Johnson, 56, of Buford, Ga. "If you're going to win a race, it has to
be Indy."

Warren notched his 78th national event victory today at
Indianapolis Raceway Park, tying him with John Force for second place on
the all-time NHRA winners list behind Bob Glidden's record 85 career wins.
Johnson dominated the 45th annual U.S. Nationals, qualifying No. 1, setting
the track records, and running the low elapsed time in every round of
eliminations.

W.J. qualified his GM Goodwrench Service Plus Pontiac, wearing
special Superman Racing graphics for this event, in the No. 1 spot for the
12th time this season.

Johnson pounded the opposition with four straight 6-second runs
in eliminations. Warren defeated his son Kurt in the first round with
a 6.939-second elapsed time, the quickest run of the day. He dispatched
rivals Jim Yates and Jeg Coughlin, Jr. in the second and third rounds
respectively. He then spoiled Anderson's first final-round appearance with
a 6.944 at 198.61 mph to Anderson's troubled 14.501 at 58.06 mph.

"We thought there might be a slight performance advantage in the
right lane in the final," Warren reported. "Greg has done an excellent job.
He had a little racing luck today and got to the final in the biggest race
of the year."

Warren set the IRP track elapsed time record at 6.920 seconds and
the speed standard at 199.82 mph. "They called this the 'Wonder Car' last
year, and we're still wondering why it works so well," noted the Professor
as he savored his sixth Indy victory.

ERICA ENDERS WINS IT ALL AT S**G PRO SUPERSTAR SHOOTOUT IN RJ RACE CARS BUILT PRO STOCK CAMARO!

BRADENTON, Fla. (Feb. 10, 2024) - Erica Enders and Johnson's Horsepowered Garage/Melling Performance/S**G Power Equipment rallied to victory Saturday at the S**G Power Equipment PRO Superstar Shootout at Brandenton Motorsports Park. Their win at the inaugural event not only earns them bragging rights but a $125,000 pay day.

In the final round, Enders would race to the quarter-mile in a stout 6.531-seconds at 210.05 mph to take down rival Dave Connolly's 6.577 at 208.11.

6X world champion Erica Enders and her Johnson's Horsepowered Garage/Melling Performance/S**G Power Equipment Pro Stock team landed the No. 1 qualifying position Friday at the S**G Power Equipment PRO Superstar Shootout presented by Johnson's Horsepowered Garage at Brandenton Motorsports Park.

In the final qualifying session, Enders laid down an impressive 6.505-second pass at 210.21 mph to jump from the No. 12 qualifying position to the top spot earning the $10,000 cash bonus provided by Lucas Oil.

“We got here a week ago, and we did some testing and my race car performed awesome. Then we got to qualifying and we struggled. So I was a little nervous but I have a lot of confidence in my guys,” Enders said. “Going up there on that last run sitting No. 12, I asked my crew chief Mark Ingersoll, how do we look, and I could hear the confidence in his voice and then Jake Hairston, my tuner, came over and said we were fixing to go to the top. That gives me confidence behind the wheel.

“I’m super proud of my team," Enders continued. "To be part of this, seeing the hard work, being part of the hard work, it gives me so much pride being here at the inaugural S**G Pro Superstar Shootout. I just keep thinking, ‘If you build it, they will come.’ All the baddest drag racers on the planet are here, it's packed and I'm having a ball. I’m stoked about it. This is a new beginning for the world of drag racing and I’m excited to be part of it.”

Race opponents for all rounds of eliminations at the PRO Superstar Shootout will be determined on a chip draw format. With her No. 1 performance, Enders earned the first draw picking the number two that matched with teammate David Cuadra as her first round opponent.

“The chip draw is a different format, I’ve been part of a few before. I was first to pick tonight and I just grabbed one and looked real quick and saw the number two. I thought I had Dallas Glenn because he was qualified No. 2 but it’s whoever else drew the number two,” Enders said. “When you occupy more than half of the field your odds of drawing a teammate are pretty substantial. I can’t say enough about the Cuadra family. We’ll just have to put our heads down and go to work tomorrow and we’ll see what happens. I hope for a really great outcome.”
