According to MDC, the Upper White River basin of southern Missouri and northern Arkansas is the only place where the longpincered crayfish is found. This species can grow up to 6 inches or more in length!!

Table Rock Lake is home to a substantial population of this crayfish species. The presence of crayfish in a stream or pond usually indicates good water quality! 🎉

They stay underground for up to 17 years and when they emerge they mate, the female lays her eggs in a crack in a tree and then they die. A tragic love story. Once the egg hatches, it eats tree fluids - when it’s ready - it falls to the ground and burrows in where it stays for up to 17 years - then reappears and the cycle starts again.
