ADA Compliant Website?

Since 2020, I have been hearing a lot more buzz about websites needing to be ADA compliant and there has also been an increase in the amount of lawsuits against companies. This can be very concerning for business owners and organizations because the last thing you want is a lawsuit on your hands.

What is ADA compliance? It is ensuring that your website meets the requirements for the American Disabilities Act, which requires your website to be accessible to those with disabilities. There are three different levels of compliance - Level A, level AA, and level AAA - each one addressing deeper issues with becoming compliant.

I've had website projects that I have successfully made ADA compliant. Here are 2 examples: lifestylemedicine.org and kilts-n-stuff.com.

You can assess your website by going to accessibe.com and clicking Free Audit. Type your website into the field and click Get Audit. It will generate a report and let you know the areas of your website you need to address to make it ADA compliant.

How do you go about making your website ADA compliant? It is a combination of restructuring content, installing tools, and adding custom code to your website to help your website meet the ADA requirements. This can be very time consuming and technical.

My friend Jesse Sutherland has been working on a fun side project for the past few weeks. It's a mobile party game in the same vein as Jackbox's Quiplash. It can be played with 3-12 players and works well if you are all in the same room, on a zoom call or similar. Each game only takes about 10-15 minutes.

The game is called The Vote's Out, and it's free to play. All you have to do is get your group to the website, start a game, and let everyone know the room code. Everybody needs their own device but no TVs are required. Each game has 12 questions such as "I hope my last words are...". Each player adds their witty response and then all players vote on their favorites. The winner is the player who wins the most votes for the most questions.

I launched a website in January for Warner Seeds. The site turned out great and the client was ecstatic. I launched a very cool website in August for Sparkling Properties. Their website was on Joomla and kept getting hacked. Their developer was not attentive or responsive to their needs and their website was frequently down and was missing the slideshow for several months. I moved their website to WordPress and they have not been hacked since and the slideshow and everything else is working as it should be. I was given a lot of design freedom (which I loved!) and the client very pleased with how the website turned out (and so am I).
