Tech is GOING BOWLING for the first time since 2018 after defeating Syracuse for their sixth win of the season last Saturday. This coming Saturday is the season’s toughest test against our rivalUGA. Las Vegas pegs us as a 24 point underdog, so we have a chance to pull off a major upset against the #1 ranked team.

Georgia Tech vs Syracuse football game watching

After last week’s beat-down against Clemson, Tech needs a win this Saturday against the Orange to secure their first bowl bid since Paul Johnson was coach. But Syracuse is coming off a win against Boston College so a focused effort will be needed to beat them.

Hopefully Tech is off the roller coaster and is now just on a roll as they secured their second ACC victory in a row over Virginia last Saturday. The Jackets are now 4-2 in ACC play and in third place in the league standings. They face a tough test this weekend traveling to revitalized Clemson, who beat a ranked Norte Dame team last Saturday.

Tech’s roller coaster season continues as they square off against a suddenly hot Virginia Cavalier squad. Both teams most recent victory has been over ranked UNC, so it should be an exciting and competitive game in Charlottesville.

The Jackets face a tough test against the ranked UNC Tar Heels this week after their disappointing loss to Boston College. But our roller coaster season has been an “L” followed by a “W” followed by an “L” (L,W,L,W,L,W,L). So we are due for a “W” aren’t we?

It’s the first early “breakfast/lunch” kickoff of the year. CB&CB has a limited but good breakfast menu along with their regular lunch menu.

Tech is going for a 3-1 ACC record and continue their march toward bowl eligibility when they play the BC Eagles in Atlanta.

The Jackets look to win their second ACC game against the 17th ranked and undefeated Miami Hurricanes down in south Florida. It would be a big upset after last week’s underwhelming performance, but stranger things have happened!

This could be a pivotal game in the 2022 season before the Jackets get into the rest of their schedule against ACC foes. I hope to see you there.

Just a reminder that all Yellow Jacket faithful in the Phoenix metro area are invited to this week's football game watching against the Ole Miss Rebels. Kickoff is at 12:30 and we will be at the Cold Beers and Cheeseburgers location at the 101 & Shea Blvd (Pima Crossing shopping center). GEORGIA TECH vs SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA basketball game at Footprint Center in downtown Phoenix on Saturday, December 18th, 2021.

The group has purchased 20 tickets. There are currently 4 tickets that are unused if anyone is interested in rooting on your Yellow Jackets and meeting some local area alumni and friends. Ticket cost is $61.73. We are sitting in the lower bowl in section 104. Each ticket gets you two games worth of entertainment.

Game 1 - 11:00 am tipoff - Gonzaga vs Texas Tech (both teams are ranked in the top 25.

I will finalize ticket arrangements to attend this game by the middle of this week. I have been in contact with the alumni association and I should hear feedback on whether they can come through with tickets and pricing for any extra "friends and family" tickets that are not claimed for use by the basketball team, coaches, and staff. Those tickets should put us fairly close to the Yellow Jacket bench. Those would normally be fairly expensive but hopefully since they are not being claimed they would be offered to us at a discount. I will find out the details by Tuesday morning.

I have had direct inquiries from people interested in a total of 16 tickets so far. If you are interested in attending and have not contacted me yet, please do so by this coming Friday.

The tickets are for the Saturday 12/18 afternoon session that is part of the 2021 Jerry Colangelo Classic. The afternoon session consists of two games.

The first game in the afternoon session is scheduled for 11:00 am and features Gonzaga vs Texas Tech. Gonzaga is currently ranked #3 and Texas Tech has been a power in the Big 12 the last few years.

The second game in the afternoon session is scheduled for 2:00 pm and features GEORGIA TECH vs Southern California.

If I have to buy the tickets myself, then I am going to target a price point of around $50 (+/- $10) per ticket. Please remember that this price is for two games. Per what I am seeing online on the tournament website, this price should get tickets in the lower bowl on the baseline, from behind the basket (cheaper) to the corners (more expensive). Based on the interest shown, I am planning to buy a block of 20 to 25 tickets.

If you have told me that you are interested in going, but the $50 price is more than you are willing to pay, then please let me know that also. Most likely the tickets will be electronic, so once they are purchased, I will have to figure out how to get them to those committed to going. Most likely I would transfer tickets to you via email and you would store them in your Apple Wallet or Android Wallet app. You can pay for the tickets using Zelle by using the following email: [email protected]. Or you can pay by check or cash by bringing the payment to the game.

I know this is a lot of information. Things will come more into focus by Wednesday.

NO FOOTBALL GAME WATCHING SCHEDULED - Ga. Tech vs UGA on Saturday 11/27.

Arizona Yellow Jacket Alumni and Friends,

Since it is Thanksgiving weekend, there will not be a formal game watching gathering for the UGA game. So the 2021 football game watching events have ended for the season. We can all root on the Yellow Jackets and coach Collins to pull off the upset of the year tomorrow. I want to thank Phil Corbell and Greg Lutter for their attendance at these events, especially the last three weeks when I could not make it and they were the only two there.

I have had an encouraging number of responses about interest in attending the Ga. Tech vs Southern California basketball game in downtown Phoenix at the Footprint Center on 12/18. So far there is interest from folks to purchase 10 to 15 seats. I am trying to nail down pricing. With the amount of interest shown, the club will pursue purchasing tickets, whether it is in conjunction with the alumni association or not. I will keep everyone posted on what is going on. Our disappointing season is rapidly coming to a close, but our beloved Yellow Jackets have a chance to turn the college football world on its ear the next couple of weeks by pulling off a monumental upset! Our first chance is tomorrow against the golden domers who think they are too good to join the ACC as a member in football.

Greg Lutter has volunteered to be at our usual Cold Beers and Cheeseburgers at 12:30 to host in my place. Phil Corbell may also be there but I don't want to make promises for him. I want to thank both Greg and Phil for continuing the hosting duties during my recent absence the last few weeks.

I have had a couple of conversations with Kristin Harrison from the alumni association. She is interested in helping local alumni get together to support the Yellow Jacket basketball team when they play Southern California on Saturday, December 18th at 2:00 pm at Footprint Center in downtown Phoenix. This game is part of a two game session which is part of the larger Jerry Colangelo Classic. The other game in the session is at 11:00 am and features national powers Gonzaga and Texas Tech.

Ga. Tech vs Va. Tech Football Game Watching - 9:00 am on Saturday 10/30.

Hi All,

Sorry for the late notice about tomorrow morning's football game watching.

Last week the location was moved to a new venue. It is still a Cold Beers and Cheeseburgers, but the location has moved to Shea Blvd just west of the 101 in Scottsdale. See the address at the end of this email. The folks that showed up liked the new location. It is bigger and easier to get to.

Even though our beloved Jackets lost to UVA last week, we made it a game at the end. We recovered two onside kicks, scored two touchdowns, and had a Hail Mary pass to the end zone that had a chance to tie the game, all in the last three minutes of the game. Our Jackets did not quit!

We have a good chance to win (we are actually favored) against Virginia Tech. We need this victory to keep our chances of getting to a bowl game alive. Come on out tomorrow morning to cheer the Jackets onto victory!
