Thank you to all the businesses who shovel their walks for community members. Not everyone has a car or can get a ride somewhere and many folks need to rely on a wheelchair or cane to walk around. I don’t have a car a rely on buses and walking to get around. It’s not easy during the winter!

One thing I’ll never understand is why parking lots do not get huge fines for not shoveling! They should have to follow the rules like everyone else out there. Imagine trying to get through the sidewalks that are half shoveled! It is hard. City of Spokane - Municipal Government needs to do something about this!

{Pictured: many photos of local establishments shoveling or already shoveled walks after a large amount of snow fall. Also pictured: diamond parking lots plowing their lots- and NOT the sidewalk of their property.}

This is embarrassing. The very things that people say about politicians is that we say one thing but do make the hard vote to do what we have promised. We promised during the George Floyd protests that we would work on police reforms. What have we done? Had a few discussions. I am not talking about what the state has done. I am talking about what we have done for our VERY OWN BIPOC community. NOTHING. The answer is nothing. This is embarrassing and sad. And here we are again giving more money to the force that have not taken any of this seriously.

We wonder why no one wants to join the police force and we have tons of conversations about why no one is applying. Maybe it is because of the fact that our nation created police departments to harass and jail black/indigenous people of color and to protect “private property” - which only supported white property owners.

This is historical information. The education is out there now and people my age and younger do not want to be a part of a racists structure such as a police department.

Let me be clear….I do not hate officers as individuals officers. I am sure there are very nice people ou there that do this work. I hate the system that created this infrastructure and we need BIG change.

Today we are passing to give “tools” to our police department. Tools that can only hurt part of our community. Will we hear about it in our media? NO- because the police department writes their own media relesease. They decide what goes into the paper and the public do not get to see who gets hurt by them. Only when it slips out or someone does a public record to get video of the incident do we ever hear about it.

The folks who support this keep saying that we need to protect people. What types of people will this protect? Housed people? Rich people? White people? People who have funding for mental health support? Privlaged people? YES.

One more thing- why are our police responding to mental health calls? We have a system that actually works with mental health respondents to calls. We have had less deaths, less arrests and more people getting into services they need. This is a waste of money from our budget and we have REAL data on who to do it different. Let’s take a step today and vote no on this as a “tool” for our police officers and do some real reform!

Another Spokane leader on homelessness has resigned, but the city promises there's 'not a concern that things will be missed' 06/08/2021

I think we might have a problem here. This is one of the worst times to not have staff in the CHHS department.

We WILL most certainly see a high rise in homelessness due to the lack of action by our governor to take a stand for our vulnerable families. We need the eviction moratorium reinstated and rent increases capped/banned. This is going to be a mess! 😩🥺

Shawn Vestal: Police were called six times in two days on mentally ill man; the sixth proved fatal 03/08/2021

This is so sad to see! I am terribly sorry for the families who have to go through this

"The American Psychological Association estimates that a fifth of all police encounters involve a person showing signs of mental illness. A Washington Post investigation of police shootings in 2020 included a national database that tracked 1,324 fatal shootings by police over the previous six years involving someone involved in the throes of a mental health crisis. That accounted for about a quarter of all fatal police shootings during that time."
