Greater York CROP Hunger Walk
The York CROP Walk for the Hungry was the first CROP Walk in the country to benefit Church World Serv Currently, well over 2,000 communities across the U.S.
With its inception in 1969, CROP Hunger Walks are “viewed by many as the granddaddy of charity walks,” notes the Los Angeles Times (Oct. 26, 2009). On October 17, 1969, a thousand people in Bismarck, ND, walked in what may have been the start of the hunger walks related to CROP – and raised $25,000 to help stop hunger. Thank you ALL for your support of the Greater York CROP Hunger Walk! We raised $43,709 towards ending hunger around the world! 25% of those funds went to the York County Food Bank!

Thank you all who walked and donated at last year's CROP Hunger Walk. Because of YOU we were able to raise over $41,000 towards hunger and poverty. 25% of that went to our partners at the York County Food Bank to help efforts RIGHT HERE in York County. Help refugees settle into their new situation knowing that someone cares. Join us as we walk to raise money for those suffering from food insecurity here in York and internationally! 💛
The Greater York CROP Hunger Walk Committee met today in a virtual Zoom meeting. Patrick Walker, the CWS regional director, and committee members discussed possible options for this year's CROP Hunger Walk to be held on Sunday, October 11, 2020. It may be a virtual walk or one with social distancing. Decisions will depend on the status of the pandemic as we get closer to October. Plan on joining us as we raise money to feed the hungry and support Church World Service programs around the world.
Here is an update on the results of the 50th Greater York CROP Hunger Walk.
Our Treasurer, Gene Snyder, reported a net balance of $116,797.06! Patrick Walker, CWS Regional Executive, reported that the $6,000+ that Maurice Bloem, CWS Executive Vice President received for walking from New York City to York was added to the Greater York CROP Hunger Walk bringing our total to $123,000+.
We have a balance of $6,750.20 remaining in the local bank account from the funds raised to conduct the walk. The CROP Walk Committee, at their January 11 meeting, voted to distribute $250 to each of the local food banks we have supported in the past for their use in feeding the hungry. The remainder be will be used for expenses for the upcoming CROP Hunger Walk.
Patrick Walker stated $29,199.27 was sent by Church World Service to the York County Food Bank to be used in feeding the hungry in York County. This was the local community's portion of the funds raised by the walk.
