Got flies making your horse miserable? Here’s what to look for on your fly spray bottle! 🔍

Quick Knockdown: Pyrethrins are great for fast action but fade under the sun. Boost their staying power with synergists like Piperonyl butoxide. ⏱️

Sturdy Protection: Choose sprays with high concentrations of Pyrethroids like permethrin and cypermethrin. They’re your best bet against Florida's rugged insects. Remember, you get what you pay for—more active ingredients, better protection! 💪

Natural Scents: While peppermint oil, clove oil, and citronella smell wonderful, they don't stand up long against our local critters. They’re good for a quick fix but not for the long haul. 🌿

Meet Beau, a smart horse who's found the perfect way to beat the brutal Florida heat—chilling under misters his owner set up just for him! ☀️

Did you know that some horses struggle with anhidrosis, a condition where they can't sweat enough to cool down? Even if you see a bit of sweat, they might still be struggling, and elevated respiratory rates are a big giveaway.

One affordable and effective solution? Outdoor patio misters! These are easy to find and can offer much-needed relief, just like they do for Beau. Check out how relaxed he is under those refreshing sprays—you can see the relief on his face!

🦷 Tooth Out Tuesday 🦷 Our latest X-ray reveals a tooth with a subgingival fracture – the crown appeared clinically normal, but the real issue was hidden beneath. Just like in human dentistry, X-rays are a pivotal part of diagnosing and treating dental problems in horses.

As my time in South Africa comes to a close, I want to express my sincere thanks for the incredible experiences and support I've received.

Thank you to my husband for making this crazy idea a reality. It wasn't easy at times, but completely worth it. We'll never forget this time and the little community that we are now a part of for life. I'll certainly miss the unique daily encounters in Kruger: hearing our 'house hippo' splash in his shrinking puddle outside the kitchen door, dodging elephant manure on my jogs, trying to get Jack to properly use a slingshot so he could get over his fear of monkeys and baboons after they took his lunch at school, and listening to the bush babies and hyenas calling at night 🦛🐘🐒.

A huge thank you to Dr. Bjorn Reininghaus and his amazing team of vet assistants: Knowledge, Greyton, Agree, and Enoch. Their dedication and passion have been truly inspiring 🐄🐕. Thank you for taking me under your wing and giving me the chance to experience Mpumalanga in ways I never could have from within the park.

A special thank you to the team back in Florida for keeping McCleery Equine Veterinary Service running smoothly during my absence. Jen Larson and Kat Smith have done an outstanding job managing day-to-day operations, and I'm deeply grateful for their hard work and dedication. 2 Nigerian Dwarf young bucks - Twix and Tootsie

Our 2 goats were in our fenced yard and escaped/disappeared sometime between 3 and 5:45pm on Wednesday 4/10. Please let me know if you see them, they are family pets!

The lighter colored one (Twix) is very friendly and will likely approach someone or let them approach him for pets. The darker/redder one is more skittish.

🎉 Guess who's back? Dr. Pryor, our favorite relief vet from Colorado, is back at McCleery Equine Veterinary Service this week! 🐴 He’s here filling in before Dr. McCleery returns next month.
