Leyenda is a pan-Latin cocktail bar by drinks doyenne Julie Reiner of Clover Club and Flatiron Lounge and her protégé, star bartender Ivy Mix. It celebrates the spirits and imbibing traditions of Latin America, the Caribbean, Europe and the U.S. in creative and classic cocktails, with accompanying dishes by Chef Sue Torres.
The only thing keeping us sane this week is that Election Week is directly corresponding with Sherry Week. Feeling nervous? SAME. Come on in, fortify yourself and calm (Kamala?) your nerves. 👀Did you know? Filipinos and Mexicans have a long history of cultural exchange and interrelationships that began during the Spanish colonial period. Filipinos introduced many foods to Mexico, including tamarind, rice, mango de Manila, and coconuts. The cultural exchange continues today, and can be seen especially in places like Acapulco and Colima. From 1565 to 1815, the Manila-Acapulco Galleon trade route connected the Philippines and Mexico, facilitating the movement of people, goods, and ideas.
In fact some of our favorite mezcles are distilled in Filipino stills, a style of still brought to Mexico my Filipinos, very different than the European Alembic still. We will also be pouring special Filipino style style Mezcales for the night!
