Hello Craigponders,
I hope this post finds you well and enjoying the holiday season. I know some enjoyed their Thanksgiving dinner at the pond which I’m sure was special! As the pond prepares for winter, may you all enjoy times with your family and friends and before you know it, we’ll all be back to enjoy our precious pond.

Well folks, the summer has come to a close and colder temperatures have arrived. The trees are beginning their annual transformation and the pond is mixing as it should. Watering monitoring went well and boat inspections reported no invasives. May you all have a happy and healthy fall and winter as we transition with the seasons. See you all in the spring.

Today I was re-certified by Lake Stewards of Maine at Pushaw Lake to continue monitoring Craig Pond for water clarity and dissolved oxygen. The bi-weekly results of the Secchi readings can be viewed by going to the website: lakestewardsofmaine.org

Continue to be mindful of the potential for invasive plants so be sure your boats are free of any plant life that may be on your boat or kayak when it is put in the water. Knowing that milfoil was discovered in Alamoosook goes to show that we cannot relax. A boat inspector will be at the beach on Friday night and Saturday and Sunday mornings until Labor Day. Thank you all for your vigilance!

Hello Craigponders,
Just an update to let you know that I participated in a Zoom meeting this morning called Maine Summit on Invasive Aquatic Species sponsored by Lake Stewards of Maine. It was a strong reminder that milfoil and other invasives are alive and well in Maine, case in point, the discovery of milfoil in Lake Alamoosook. Early detection will hopefully help to eradicate this invasive but being vigilant to any suspicious plant is imperative! I remind all boaters before putting your watercraft in Craig Pond to clean your boats, unplug to remove all trapped water, and let them dry. Our boat inspector is trained to take samples of any vegetation that looks suspicious. It may be necessary to ask volunteers to assist W***y as that may be forthcoming. We all look forward to the summer ahead but with an eye for anything that may threaten our precious pond. See you all soon. Shelley

Hello Craig Ponders! The ice is starting to disappear and one brave soul actually took the plunge yesterday! Brrr!!! As spring and summer approach, this is a strong reminder to be EXTRA VIGILANT with regard to any boat that enters Craig Pond as the invasive plant milfoil has been detected in Alamoosook. Boat inspections are done at the boat launch but only on weekends so PLEASE check your boats, motors, etc. to help avoid any invasive that could enter our precious pond! Water monitoring at the buoy will continue from May to October which measures water clarity and dissolved oxygen that adds to important historical data. Here’s to a safe summer season.
