Are your tomatoes grown in the dirt?
🍅🍅🍅🍅
We are often asked how our tomatoes are grown. So...
We believe produce grown in the dirt taste the best. Our tomatoes (all of our produce to be exact) is grown in the dirt. We grow tomatoes in our high tunnel, our smaller hoophouses, and in the open field, but no mater where the tomatoes are, they are always grown in good ol Mother Earth 🌎.
Tomatoes can be sensitive when it comes to water💧and the temperature🌡. So we choose to grow most of our tomatoes under the cover of plastic.
Why?
1️⃣ Growing under cover allows us to manage how much water the plants get. Tomatoes grown out in the open get all of the rain 🌧 that comes on them. So if we get 1+ inches of rain, that can be too much for the tomato plant and it will cause blossom-end rot. This is where the blossom end of the tomato starts to rot (turn black) making the tomato not usable. Also, if tomatoes get too much water at once it can cause the tomato itself to split 😖.
2️⃣ The plants themselves don't get water directly on them. If a tomato plant continually gets wet it can cause fungus and other issues. So we use drip irrigation to water the plants right at the soil.
3️⃣ We can have tomatoes started earlier or go later into the season because the tunnels tend to be warmer than the outside temperature when they are closed up. Creating their own micro climate.
4️⃣ We are able to tie them up and prune them in a way that allows for better air flow and decreases the fungal issues. It also, allows us to see the tomatoes easier so we can harvest them when they are ready and not lose them to worms, grasshoppers, and other pests.
5️⃣ The tunnels protect the plants from the wind. When we have a storm that has strong winds we close up the sides and then open it after the storm passes.
Stop by our booth every Saturday from 8am-1pm at the . Located in front of the Museum of World Treasures in Wichita.
We offer tomatoes at different stages so you can enjoy them all week. We also do salsa packs. These give you the base for a salsa and allows you to customize it however you like.
We still have 4 feeder pigs available for purchase. These are a good size now (75+ pounds). They are weaned and ready to go.
$100 each

My father is a farmer.
His heart is in the soil
It's there he finds his solace,
Among the grimy toil.
He plants the seed in springtime,
The corn, the beans, the hay.
He prays that God would bless it.
A harvest, Lord, I pray.
He tills and cultivates it,
Provides the most tender care.
Believes that come October,
He'll reap a harvest fair.
Blue skies are his cathedral.
A tractor, his altar of prayer.
God meets him in the cornfields,
They have communion there.
My father is a farmer-
That's all he'll ever be.
The values that the land taught him,
He handed down to me.
I love my farmer father-
I'm thankful that he's mine...
I pray that God would bless him,
Today and for all time.

Happy Father's Day!
Ever wonder how to use that licorice smelling vegetable (fennel)?
Well I am here to say it isn't that hard to simply add it to dishes you already make.
Add it to your pizzas, soups, or salads for an extra blast of flavor.
This past week I chopped up two bulbs of fennel, some potatoes, and an onion. Then cut up two chickens and placed them on top of the potatoes and fennel, and roasted them until the chicken was cooked and the potatoes were tender.
SO GOOD!
