Shreveport, LA-- The Amarillo College Bash Script Crazy (BSC) team, consisting of eight talented students, traveled from Amarillo, Texas, to Shreveport, Louisiana, to participate in the 6th Annual United States Information Technology Collegiate Conference (USITCC) National Convention on April 4th. The team, sponsored by Faculty Sponsors Christopher George and John Emery, included Christopher Martinez (Club President), Kloee Pratt-Casteneda (Club VP), Mario Rodriguez, Andrew Gonzales, Marina Zlatunic, Kyle Cooper, Xander Galusha (Treasurer), and Ayobami Famojuro. The USITCC National Convention featured a wide range of categories, such as PC Troubleshooting, Security, Database Design, Microsoft Office, Application Development, Business Analytics, Systems Analysis and Design, and Network Design.

Throughout the three-day event, the BSC team members competed against 163 students from 19 colleges and universities from across the country. In addition to the competitions, the event provided an excellent opportunity for the students to interact with their peers and network with students and faculty members from other institutions.

Each contest lasted four hours. The four-hour contests not only challenged the students to learn more about their capabilities and push their limits, but also to see how they stacked up against the other students. During the awards luncheon, the Amarillo College CIS Program announced their plans to host the Fall 2024 USITCC South Central Regional in Amarillo, Texas, from November 7th to 9th.

After two days of intense competitions, the awards ceremony revealed the winners of each contest, as well as honorable mentions for those who demonstrated exceptional skills. Christopher Martinez and Kyle Cooper placed in the top 25 of the Initial USITCC Security Contest, which included a 60-question multiple-choice round. They then advanced to the Capture the Flag event, where they secured the 20th and 21st positions, respectively. Kyle Cooper also excelled in the PC Troubleshooting contest, placing 8th in the initial round, which consisted of 100 multiple-choice questions. He went on to receive an Honorable Mention in the Virtual Machine Troubleshooting final. Other notable achievements included Christopher Martinez placing 14th, Xander Galusha 21st, and Marina Zlatunic 24th in the PC Troubleshooting contest.

The Bash Script Crazy team and the CIS Program express their gratitude to the leadership of the Amarillo College Computer Information Systems department and the Amarillo College Board of Regents for their unwavering support in helping students improve their skills and promoting Amarillo College on the national stage. The team's success in challenging traditional four-year colleges and universities demonstrates the exceptional abilities of non-traditional students. Special thanks also goes to the Amarillo College Student Life for help funding this incredible opportunity for the students.
