Only the imaginative, risk-taking, transformational actor can inhabit new emotional, physical and vocal territory. Therefore, the goal is to expand the self to encompass the character, not to contract the character to the limited self. And so, training in the theatre is all about opening and revealing. By allowing, you make sure your impulses are reactive and responsive. You become hypervigilant without tension. You encourage work that is true, important, alive, personal and organic.
Identifying and making the most of your character’s transitions of thought and emotion are the keys to unlocking your character’s emotional score and creating moment-to-moment suspense. Most actors miss or minimize many transitions, thereby flattening out material, reducing impact.
Challenge yourself. Develop your own standards. If it’s worth doing, then do it completely.

“Ultimately, the studio, classroom, or location is the safe place - the place where you need not care about other’s values, judgments, needs or agendas - care only about your honest search for what is true, real, and meaningful. When that actor develops an ongoing curiosity about the ways of the world and its human inhabitants; when that actor is steeped in understanding through psychology and recognizes alternate world views through philosophy; when that actor has something to say about the human condition and a passion to communicate it.” - Peter Frisch

To act beautifully, transparently, means that you believe that the power of fiction can actually be more compelling than real life, that Story possesses the power to provide the deepest insights into the human condition.” - Peter Frisch, The Transformational Actor
