Moving to Utah in 1995 presented a significant challenge as I transitioned my established chiropractic practice to a saturated market in Salt Lake City. Determined to succeed, I took proactive steps to gain visibility, setting up booths at local home shows and reconnecting with Dr. Hatrak, who introduced me to innovative techniques for treating sports injuries which led to opportunities to work with professional sports teams, including the Cincinnati Bengals, Kansas City Chiefs, and Philadelphia Eagles. Being invited to assist the Philadelphia Eagles during their Super Bowl-winning season in 2017 was a highlight, further solidifying my passion for sports chiropractic.
In 2001, I purchased a new facility, Utah Sports and Wellness, enabling further growth and the addition of services like acupuncture and massage therapy.
Congratulations to my longtime friend and colleague, Dr. Michael Hatrak for keep Jalen Brown and Kristaps Porzingas tuned up and on their game for The Celtics in the NBA Finals.
Early in my chiropractic career, I encountered limitations in treating patients with issues beyond spinal-related conditions, such as ankle, elbow, or knee problems, feeling constrained by the traditional focus on spinal adjustments. Recognizing the need to expand my expertise, I began exploring ways to enhance my skill set.
Meanwhile, frequent motorcycle rides through the Southwest with my twin brother sparked a deep love for the region. In the early 1990s, I met my future wife, a medical student, and despite geographical distance, our connection flourished. Ultimately, she matched to a residency program in Salt Lake City, Utah, prompting us to take the leap and start a new chapter together, purchasing our first home and embarking on this journey with unwavering determination.
Throughout my chiropractic career, I've had diverse experiences, from treating professional athletes to local community members and even animals. One notable encounter occurred at a motorcycle racetrack, where I adjusted a racer before a race, leading to his victory and subsequent public acknowledgment, opening doors for further opportunities and exposure.
Another memorable case involved a world champion pistol shooter and his nephews, whose health improved significantly with chiropractic care. Witnessing remarkable outcomes, such as a mechanic regaining hearing after adjustments, reinforced my passion for helping others through chiropractic care.
Treating animals, including dogs, also yielded impressive results, solidifying my dedication to the profession. Working with triathletes further deepened my appreciation for holistic health, strengthening my commitment to enhancing lives through chiropractic care.
Despite the fulfilling experience of working with Dr. Hatrak, I harbored a strong desire to establish my own practice. In 1987, I found the ideal location in Plumsteadville, Pennsylvania, converting an old church into my chiropractic clinic after months of preparation. Supported once again by Dr. Blessing, I launched a unique community outreach effort, personally sending 5,000 hand-signed letters to every household in Plumsteadville to introduce myself and offer affordable chiropractic care at $10 per visit.
My dedication to accessibility paid off, quickly gaining traction within the community, with the entire town soon becoming my patients. I employed various grassroots marketing tactics, from giving lectures and visiting trailer parks to holding educational sessions every Tuesday night, all aimed at empowering individuals with knowledge about chiropractic philosophy and its benefits in the absence of social media platforms.
Despite the challenges, the journey of building my practice from the ground up proved immensely fulfilling, shaping me into the practitioner I am today and fueling my dedication to helping others achieve optimal health.
Following chiropractic school in 1985, I faced initial challenges during an externship until meeting Dr. Michael Hatrak, who became a lifelong friend and mentor. Joining his practice post-graduation led to establishing one of the largest practices in southeastern Pennsylvania and New Jersey, despite adversity such as a 1986 fire that destroyed our office.
Under Dr. Hatrak's guidance, I gained invaluable insights into clinical practice and business management, shaping my professional journey profoundly. Our enduring friendship and his continued success, now with the NFL in Atlanta, highlight the lasting impact of his support on my career and life.
Dr. Blessing served as a steadfast guide as I navigated challenges from my teenage years into adulthood. Despite uncertainty after high school, I transitioned from engineering to pre-med, balancing studies with the complexities of my mother's cancer diagnosis in 1980. Juggling school and work, I completed my undergraduate prerequisites in 1982 before embarking on a transformative journey to Sherman College of Chiropractic in South Carolina, encouraged by Dr. Blessing's recommendation.
The rigorous program tested my resilience, yet camaraderie among classmates and passionate professors fueled my determination. Despite periodic journeys back home to Pennsylvania, completing my education brought profound fulfillment, preparing me to make a difference through chiropractic practice with a sense of purpose.
In 1970, at the age of 13, I discovered chiropractic care for my midback pain, sore throats, and stiff necks, recommended by my mother and aunt. Despite initial skepticism about the connection to my activities like dirt bike racing, my first adjustment proved transformative, alleviating my symptoms within a few months of regular sessions.
Throughout my teenage years, amid a challenging family environment my chiropractor, Dr. Blessing, became not only a healthcare provider but also a mentor, offering invaluable guidance and support. Chiropractic care provided me with both physical relief and emotional resilience, instilling in me a newfound confidence and sense of empowerment that propelled me forward.
This is a question we get a lot. Microcurrent is approved in the category of TENS devices by the FDA. While both modalities fall under the same category, the treatment outcomes are very different.
Microcurrent is a faint electric current that is so small it is measured in millionths of an amp. Other devices such as TENS (trans-cutaneous electrical nerve stimulation) unit cannot heal on a cellular level because its current is 1000 times too large. The current doesn’t match or resonate with the cells in a way that can invoke a healing response.
As such, the TENS is limited to temporary pain relief by simply creating muscle contractions and blocking pain messages traveling up the spine to the brain. Unlike FSM, they do not increase cellular production, reduce inflammation, or speed tissue healing.
My name is Dr. Michael Cerami, and I'm a chiropractor and the owner/operator of Utah Sports and Wellness in Salt Lake City, Utah. With 38 years of experience in practice, I specialize in several techniques aimed at promoting wellness and optimizing performance.
My specialties include:
Amit Muscle Activation: This technique focuses on evaluating and reactivating muscles throughout the body to enhance stability and function.
Network Spinal Analysis: Utilizing gentle adjustments comparable to the pressure it takes to dent a marshmallow, this technique aims to reduce internal stress on the nervous system, promoting better body awareness and tension relief.

In addition to these techniques, we integrate various wellness modalities into our practice, including:
Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT): We have two hyperbaric oxygen chambers that deliver oxygen to the body, aiding in the treatment of conditions such as concussions and promoting overall wellness and performance enhancement.
Frequency Specific Microcurrent (FSM): An emerging technique used in professional sports, FSM is effective in evaluating and addressing joint dysfunction, pain, and inflammation. With over 5,000 doctors worldwide using FSM and numerous published papers supporting its efficacy, it's a valuable tool in our practice.

Sleep and magnesium are closely related because magnesium plays a vital role in promoting healthy sleep.
One of the primary ways that magnesium supports healthy sleep is by regulating the body's levels of the hormone melatonin.
Melatonin is a hormone that regulates the sleep-wake cycle and is essential for getting restful sleep.
Magnesium helps to increase the production of melatonin, which can help to improve the quality and duration of sleep.
Research has shown that magnesium deficiency is associated with sleep disorders such as insomnia, restless leg syndrome, and sleep apnea. Therefore, supplementing with magnesium may be beneficial for those who have difficulty sleeping.
Shoulder problems can be hard to diagnose and sometimes hard to treat. Surgeons in the US perform more than 270,00 rotator cuff surgeries per year with the average cost being about $25,000.
What if there was a non-invasive solution to avoid the surgery and save yourself a lot of time, money and discomfort?

Have you ever heard that the longer an injury has been the present the longer it takes to heal and recover? Though not 100% of the time, this phrase is true most of the time. The sooner you begin treating an injury, typically means the quicker you heal.
So if you are suffering from a recent injury, don't wait to see if things resolve on their own, many times they don't fully recover, our bodies learn to "normalize" things and we move forward. But this puts unwanted stress and tension in areas and eventually will cause a breakdown resulting in more injuries.
Call us today, so we can help you regain the health you want and the help you reach your goals.
Sports massage can help maintain the body in generally better condition. Massage helps prevent injuries, restore mobility to injured muscle tissue and boost performance.

Magnesium is a crucial mineral that helps us stay healthy and strong. Its actually the fourth most abundant in our body, that shows a little of how important it is for us! It is associated in more than 300 metabolic reactions in our body ranging from energy production, to nerve control on muscles/organs, and muscle contractions.
Much like most vitamins and minerals that we ingest through our diet or supplementation, Magnesium comes in many different forms.

Austin was doing preacher curls (bicep muscle) and in my opinion, subluxated his elbow. This caused a pop and immediate pain. He first went to a surgeon that said “..90% sure you tore you biceps tendon and it’s going to need surgery.” He sought further information and got an MRI which didn’t show any significant damage and was then referred for Physical Therapy. After a few visits with minimal success he reached out to us. I evaluated the elbow using the Advanced Muscle Integration Technique (AMIT) and found one muscle deactivated. I fixed that muscle and he noticed an immediate relief of pain. I then did some laser and soft tissue work and there was another significant improvement. Examination and correction of the muscle took about 20 minutes and the entire visit was 30 minutes. Dramatic improvement after 2 weeks plus of pain. I believe this should solve the issue, but we may need one more short visit to clean up any left over inflammation. Not all solutions are this quick, but we can usually find the source of the problem on the first visit.

My monthly supplement refill process. Takes about 15 minutes. EFA fish oil for inflammation, magnesium for muscles, tissue mend helps with post-workout cramping, vitamin D (multi purpose). We get a lot of questions on pillow choices. I realize its a totally personal preference, but.... this is the one I've found to work best. I'm a back and side sleeper and this has held up very well for a few months now so I'm comfortable in recommending it. I got it from pillows.com (they usually have a 20% off coupon for signing up) Thing it was about $80 delivered. Let us know if you grab one. Dr. Cerami
LLD is quite common and asymptomatic (most patients don’t know if they have it). It does present some significant problems as time passes. The hips, knees, and feet start adapting to the distortion, which accelerates wear and tear on the joints as well as the muscles. Even more importantly the spine starts to twist and bend from the low back upward, causing structural misalignments, inflammation, and eventually pain.
Correction usually involves adjusting the hips and lumbar spine, only taking a few minutes. Once the stuck pattern is resolved, we provide exercises to keep the issue from returning. If you’d like to know more, we’ve created a video that shows you how to test to determine if you or a friend has a Leg Length Discrepancy. Head on over to our YouTube channel and check it out.
