The Environmental Studies Centers are educational entities designed for the study of the ecology, biology, ecosystems, and understanding of the natural areas of Florida. These outdoor centers of learning are used for conducting educational programs which are available, by reservation, to schools, community members, and private groups. Ancient Saw Palmettos in the Heart of Florida 09/12/2018

Florida's diminutive saw palmetto has been shown to live between 5 to 8 thousand years! To put this in perspective, the first plow was invented 8,000 years ago, civilization started in Mesopotamia 6,000 years ago, the first wheeled vehicle was 5,500 years ago, and the first writing around 5,000 years ago. Ancient Greece only showed up around 2,800 years ago. These amazing and underappreciated "trees" provide a foundation for many of Florida's native ecosystems. I've enjoyed exploring and teaching about these ancient organisms for years.

Conservation Groups File Amendment One Lawsuit in Florida On behalf of three Florida citizen’s groups, Earthjustice filed suit today to ask the court to compel the Florida Legislature to comply with the Water and Land Conservation Amendment in the state Constitution. The suit was filed in the Leon County Circuit Court on behalf of the Florida Wildlife Federation, the St. Johns Riverkeeper and the Environmental Confederation of Southwest Florida.
