Nutrition plays a part in almost every disease, both physical and mental. Medicine can be a quick way to save a life, but often times it's just a bandaid in place until the underlying problem can be resolved.

There's likely a change in your lifestyle that needs to be had. If that's not addressed then are you really getting the best care?

Don't believe the lie that you have to be on all your medication for the rest of your life. Many medications can be tapered and even eliminated with proper nutrition, exercise, and lifestyle changes.

Whether you go to work for a company, own your own business, work from home, or stay home to take care of your home and family, we all desire to do great work.

Nutrition plays a vital role in our ability to be great at what we do. Our bodies were designed to do amazing things and to help us thrive at the work before us, but how many of our bodies actually prevent us from doing our best work?

How many times have you gotten a headache because you have gone too long without eating? How many times have you been running around and had no energy left because you didn't have any snacks with you? How many days have you felt sluggish because you went out to eat for lunch and ate way too much of something with no nutritional value?

Whether your day's work requires physical energy, mental energy, or both, the right nutrients must be consumed for your body to provide you with ITS best so that you are able to provide your day's work with YOUR best.

Preparing your snacks and meals for the day takes less than 5 minutes. Most of us underestimate the benefits of drinking adequate amounts of water. Often times we won't even take a sip until we are thirsty, but did you know that by the time you feel thirst, you're already mildly dehydrated?!

A Hawaiian chicken or pork chop is a great choice! Baste your chicken breast or lean pork chop with Tariyaki sauce, place it on the grill along with a pineapple ring. Add some green beans, brussel sprouts, or zucchini along with some brown rice or mashed red potoes and enjoy yourself a healthy, nutritious, flavorful meal tonight! πŸ‘

Here at Strength and Dignity Dietetics it is our passion to help our clients live a life that portays strength and dignity. We would be doing you a disservice if we did not point you to the man who is the ultimate example of strength and dignity...Jesus Christ.

Today, over 2000 years ago they tried to take his dignity from him. They beat him, they mocked him, they spit on him, and they hung him on a cross to die a criminals death. They thought they had stolen his strength. They thought he was weak and powerless because he wouldn't fight back or save himself from the cross. Little did they realize he was exhibiting unfathomable strength when he willingly stayed on that cross, enduring pain and death, to save the world from their sin. He gave his body for our life. But thats not the end. Sunday was coming. In his POWER, he defeated death. He took his seat in Heaven, ALIVE and with the utmost dignity as the King of all kings worthy of all honor. One day every knee will bow before Him.

Ladies and Gentleman, for true strength and dignity in your life, look to Jesus.

What is it you want in life? Good health? Quality of life? Confidence? To love the way you look and feel? To have energy? For your children to have good health even into adulthood.

If you don't sacrifice your time, energy, and discipline now for the things listed above then THEY BECOME YOUR SACRIFICE. Your health will be poor, your quality of life will suffer, you'll constantly struggle with confidence, you'll dread looking in the mirror or putting on clothes every morning, and your children will learn the unhealthy habits you are living out as their example and will likely carry them on into their adult way of life which will ultimately lead to the same quality of health that you are experiencing today.

So, is snacking late into the night every night worth it? Is sleeping in rather than getting up 30 minutes earlier to walk on the treadmill worth it? Is stopping for take out 4-5 nights a week rather than putting in the effort to plan and cook your meals at home worth it? Is watching 2 hours of TV at night rather than spending time preparing your meals for the next day and getting to bed early to wake up for that workout worth it?

That's for you to decide.

Choose wisely.

Cereal is a quick option that kids tend to love and parent's reach for especially on rushed mornings. The problem is they are usually FULL of sugar.

Try this trick next time to cut your child's (or your own!) sugar intake in HALF! Instead of a whole bowl of honey nut cherrios full of sugar, pour about 3/4 cup plain cherrios and 1/2 cup honey nut cherrios into a bowl. The combination of the two plus the addition of a low fat milk will allow for a full breakfast of whole grains and protein with the same tasty flavor but a much lower sugar content. Add in some blueberries, strawberries, or a banana and you have yourself a quick, easy, well balanced breakfast! πŸ“πŸ«πŸ₯›πŸŒ

Let them help you πŸ’™

It may take a little longer. It might cause a little more frustration. It may result in a much bigger mess, but let them help you.

When a child cooks with you it expands their vocabulary, their fine motor skills, and their problem solving capabilities. It helps with their focus, time management, and familiarity with new math and science concepts. It allows them to explore their senses and helps them become more adventurous in trying new foods. It builds their confidence and instills in them a love for learning and tackling new life skills.

Mostly important though, it provides a bonding moment between the two of you and helps to establish a good relationship with healthy foods for your child. It strengthens their confidence in your ability to teach them about life and their trust in the promise that you will keep them safe as you teach them these new things.

As they help, use this time to tell them the nutritonal content in the foods you are cooking with and how each of those nutrients benefits their little bodies. They are never too young to begin making those connections. When you do this, you are investing in their health and their quality of life for years to come.

An incredible number of studies show that a child who helps in the preparation of a food is much more likely to eat that food when placed in front of them. They put value on it because it was their accomplishment. They have explored the food and become familiar with it. So, take advantage of that! Let them help you with the carrots, broccoli, or green beans. Let them season the meat or stir the pasta. Let them help prepare a salad or spread out a fruit tray. Let them pour in the milk or stir the sauce. Let them open the buns or hold the tongs with you while you take the meat off of the grill.

It may take you more time. It may cause some frustration. It may make a much bigger mess, but oh the memories you will make, the education you will instill, the confidence you will have encouraged, and the health you will have invested in will have been so worth it.

Getting in shape and working towards good health once you've gotten away from it isn't easy. It doesn't happen over-night. You are going to have to work for it, show discipline and self-control, and make hard sacrifices, but why not endure the SHORT TERM hard that gives you positive results rather than endure the LONG TERM hard that comes with being overweight? The aches, pains, bloating, poor energy, poor mental health, poor physical health, and lack of confidence that comes with being overweight only leads to disappointment and regret for as long as you stay that way. Your body cannot give you the quality of life it is capable of giving you when you don't give your body what it needs to thrive.

Dear Husbands and Wives,

Be kind to your spouse about their their weight. Your words will affect them for the rest of their life, both for the good OR for the bad, even if they never tell you it does. After all, β€œLife and death are in the power of the Tongue,” (Proverbs 18:21).

Instead of making jokes about the weight they have gained or the second helping they are going back for, think of a way to HELP them be healthier. They need you! They may be exhausted, defeated, anxious, depressed, burned out, or just plain struggling with self-control. There is usually an underlying issue to someone who is struggling with their weight or making unhealthy choices, and I can almost guarantee you they already know they need to make some changes. They just may not know where to start or are too overwhelmed at the thought of doing it alone.

So, invite them on a walk around the block each night, offer to watch the kids while they go workout, make them a healthy meal, pack their lunches, and keep the foods that are temptations for them out of the house. What they need is your help, your support, and your encouragement, not your criticism, teases, and put downs.

Maybe you both struggle with your weight. Choose to be the one to lead your family in living a healthy lifestyle. Have the courage to ask for help from your spouse and to initiate a plan to make both of your health a priority.

Like it or not, we were created to NEED each other. β€œTwo are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up” (Ecclesiastes 4:9-10). When you married your spouse, you became their HELP-mate in all areas of life.

So, long story short, strive to be a β€œsweet potato” in your relationship. Trust me, life will be much sweeter for the both of you πŸ₯°

It would take me about 3.5-4 hours to fully clean my house....without the kiddos around to mess it up while Im cleaning that is. ☺️ Picking up, vacuuming, mopping, bathrooms (showers too!), kitchen (dishes and fridge included), windows, bedrooms/sheets changed, dusting...Basically THE WORKS! That's about 700-800 calories I would burn!

How many calories would you burn with a good house cleaning? What about on a normal day?
