Brainspotting for Trauma: Is it Right for You? - e Remedy 05/08/2021

The old saying goes, “In each life, a little rain must fall.” But, while some of us experience a little rain, others experience torrential downpours, hail, and high winds.

Brainspotting (BSP) is a new type of therapy designed to help people overcome trauma, pain, and negative emotions. The method was discovered in 2003 by David Grand, Ph.D., and has been used successfully by over 13,000 therapists worldwide.

When we’re young, life transitions are fun and empowering. We go from crawling to walking, walking to running. We start with training wheels but soon no longer need them. As we age we graduate into higher grades and become more independent.

But as adults, life transitions can feel not so fun and far from empowering, because life transitions can often include loss: loss of a job, a marriage, and loved ones. During these life transitions, we can feel out to sea, completely at the mercy of the tides that seem to be tossing our lifeboat around.

If you are feeling stressed and overwhelmed right now because you are facing one or more life transitions, here are some ways you can navigate these choppy waters

What Happened to You?: Conversations on Trauma, Resilience, and Healing 01/05/2021

I’m only half way through this book but already would highly recommend this to anyone who has or knows someone who has experienced trauma, rejection or people pleasing. Through storytelling and conversation this books does a wonderful job of explaining how our brains respond and adapt to painful experiences and how we can move from coping to healing.

Humans are social creatures and we don’t do well in isolation. That’s exactly why state penitentiaries punish prisoners by putting them into solitary confinement. It causes them great mental anguish.
Many of us have felt like prisoners in solitary confinement over the last couple of months because of the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent lockdown. And many of us have been feeling our own mental anguish from this extended isolation.
Tapping into our creativity is one way we can cope with the loneliness that comes from isolation. Read on for more tips.

Human beings have a need for social connection. It stems from our ancestors needing to stick together to stay alive. Back in the day, those individuals who strayed from the group had a harder time surviving the elements and not starving to death.

While it is far safer to be an individual these days, that doesn’t mean it is healthy for us to be isolated, for isolation undoubtedly threatens a person’s mental wellness.

I stand with you ❤️ There are no words of comfort I can share that would alleviate the pain you are feeling. All I can offer is space to honor your experience without having to justify why you feel the way you feel. I can continue to do my own Antiracist work and continue to challenge racist systems. I see you, respect you, and value you as you are. You are enough.

Emotions aren’t ‘good’ or ‘bad’, they all have a function.
1. They communicate to and influence others
2. They organize us and motivate us to act
3. They are signals to us that we need to pay attention
4. They are the foundation for empathy

Rather than automatically fixing or pushing away the emotion take time to ask what is this emotion trying to tell me

About Me

Hey there! I’m Marinelle. I’m a therapist, entrepreneur, and unshakeable optimist. I’m so glad you found me 😊 Let me tell you a little about who I am & what I believe. I was born in California but home is where the military sends us…which at the moment happens to be in Georgia. I’m a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who is by nature a ‘glass half full’ kind of gal so I’m incredibly optimistic & energetic.

I believe that we all desire & deserve to be truly seen & accepted for who we are, as we are.

It takes bravery to be willing to see into the dark places of ourselves and to allow others to see us, imperfections & all. I believe that we have the capacity to make remarkable changes in our lives but sometimes our thoughts, emotions or actions get in the way.
