Our Story
Cadence Lodge is the ideal base camp for those craving the great outdoors and like-minded souls. As our name implies, we’re fanatics about biking and offer quick access to epic road rides, miles of single-track and gravity-fed downhill runs. We have a fleet of neighborhood bikes to get you the local haunts in style. We’re minutes from the Ausable River offering great fly-fishing and paddling while hiking trails wind through the area offering endless recreation – and views.
The Lodge originally opened as the Winkelman Resort in 1957. It offered people the chance to escape the summer heat of the city and enjoy the rest and relaxation in the Adirondacks. It soon transitioned into a year round destination, catering to the large number of skiers bound for nearby Whiteface Mountain, which opened in 1958.
In the early 2000s, the property, now operating as Birch Tree Lodge, lost some of its original architectural features, though the 1970s décor lived on – wood paneling and all.
We purchased the property in January 2015 with the goal of restoring the Lodge’s mid-Century vibe. Reclaimed and upcycled materials are being used and original architectural elements returned to embrace the Lodge’s “retro rustic” feel.
With renovations happening inside and out, the Lodge is transforming into what it was originally designed to be – base camp for those craving the great outdoors.
Visit us today to experience the restoration of this classic Adirondack lodge.
