We STILL HAVE
Jersey Giants (only 8 left)
Speckled Sussex (only 3 left)
Americauna (2 dozen or so)
Yes I will be seeing visitors until 10pm or so. Regular pricing resumes tonight after dark.
What started as a happy mistake ended up being one of the cooler birds/projects on the farm.
Button Quail. See I mistakenly got Buttons when I wanted Coturnix (pictured). But the fun thing is, at 8-10 weeks they started laying. I'm now 3 generations deep on my Buttons and I've sold HUNDREDS of babies and eggs. Eggs? $1/each. Babies? $6/each.
Those original 15 more than made back their money and they're a fun indoor pet if you want.

Rainy days make for great days to sit down and evaluate the birds we have here. That means, as always, I have some to let loose. They need to fly to your coop.
Today we are talking QUAIL.
Buttons and Coturnix.
Not many of either. I have 8 Buttons. 1-2 are males (I was certain just 1 but as I write this I hear the HA HA HA of... 2 males...)
2 are Tuxedo. Some are red Breasted. Cinnamon, and I think a single blue.
1 have 9 Coturnix available. I have 2-3 Roosters in this group. They are TAGGED. I have a homo Sparkly hen, 2 het Sparkly roosters (pretty sure on one, certain on the other), an Italian roo, and a mix of brown and Italian hens.
All are YOUNG. All are LAYING. That's why I'm 98% confident in the genders given.

It's 40⁰ and wet out at night. Where are our 2 week old chicks?
OUTSIDE!
They have a lamp, but overwhelmingly they don't use it. We try to stupid proof our birds before you get them- if they're going to die we want them to do it here. Within reason. 🤷♀️🤦♀️

We expect some quality fibro from these kids!
These eggs/chicks are reserved clear through Mid May, so if you want some you'll need to speak up and I'll let you know when yours hatch.

This is uncomfortably relevant 😅
One reason I HATE those "what breed is my chicken" posts (not that I hate you asking, I hate not being able to provide an answer because.... chickens....)
These are 2 chicks hatched the same day. Now we band breeds to keep separate. Americaunas have bands, Speckled Sussex do not. I was counting Specks tonight, as we raise them all in one bin, and one of the Specks I pulled had... a band. Come to think of it, she also had green legs. Wait, what? I was holding an Americauna. But THATS how easy it is to mess up! They're 4 maybe 5 days old! They look the same to an untrained eye.
There are basically 12 patterns (not literally, I pulled that number out of my... head) that ALL breeds of chickens share and as they age it gets better but you might have 3 breeds that look identical and except for 1 trait or size they could be mistaken for one another.
Dominique and Barred Rock for example.
Speckled Sussex and Jubilee Orphington.
Ayam Cemani and Svart Hona.
It is possible to become confused or sell the wrong bird. So, please understand- we can guess what your bird is. But we have no way to know.
Further, those of us that raise similar breeds and "know", ask us HOW we know. We won't get offended if we are doing things right. 😉
