On Thursday April 5th, 2019 at approximately 10:41 p.m. officers of the Littleton Police Department conducted a traffic stop on a Toyota Corolla on North Main Street near Hackett Street. The driver, Kawon Mitchelle, was known not to have a valid driver's license. During the traffic stop a K-9 was available and deployed by the Halifax County Sheriff's Office. The canine performed a "open air" sniff around the vehicle alerted for the presence of narcotics. A search of the vehicle yielded two glass jars that contained large quantities of marijuana, a digital weight scale, and a 9 mm Hi-Point rifle.
Mitchell was arrested, processed, and transported to the Halifax County Magistrate's Office. The magistrate found probable cause and issued Magistrate's orders for the offenses of possession with intent to manufacture sell and deliver marijuana, manufacturing marijuana, felony possession of marijuana, maintaining a vehicle for the keeping and selling of controlled substances, possession of marijuana paraphernalia and having no operator's license. Mr. Mitchell was incarcerated at the Halifax County Detention Center under a $10,000 secure Bond with a pending court date of Wednesday May 1st 2019 in Halifax County District Court.
