Clay Fire Department
Founded in 1917, the Clay FD provides volunteer Emergency fire protection, medical service and specialized hazard mitigation for it's residents.
Last night at drill, we had one crew training on our new car fire prop. We use this to simulate putting out a vehicle fire.
We also had another crew working on horizontal and vertical ventilation skills. These included cutting holes in a roof and placing ladders for ventilating a window.

🚨Please join us in congratulating our “Firefighter of the Year” award winner - Firefighter Lou Szitar 🚨
During the 2023 term, your service to the Town of Clay was exemplary. As the most senior active firefighter, you consistently rank among the top ten responders to emergency calls. Your extensive knowledge, willingness to train new drivers, and positive attitude are instrumental in developing the next generation of emergency vehicle operators.
Throughout this term, you have chaired or assisted in nearly every social event the Department hosted.
Your dedication has fostered a community favorite known as the “Santa Detail,” which provides Town resident children the opportunity to meet and greet with Santa. Your participation and guidance have made this event popular and a continued success.
You also developed and coordinated the “Believe 31” blood drive and chili cook-off in memory of Past Chief Ken Stach. This benefit has provided significant assistance to numerous families, both medically and financially.
Your involvement in holiday parties, Chief Dinners, pancake breakfasts, and general station assistance has ensured the success of each event.
Firefighter Szitar, your dedication to the Clay Fire Department and the residents of the Town of Clay is remarkable. For over 45 years, you have devoted your time, effort, and imagination to your brothers and sisters in service. Your reliability, constant devotion to duty, and steadfast effort embody the attributes of a volunteer firefighter. It is therefore fitting that you receive this year’s Clay Fire Department “Firefighter of the Year” award.
Congratulations on a job well done!
